Shocking isn't it.

The maximum salary of a teacher in Inner London is £62,496 and they need 2 university degrees to get that.

Tube drivers need GCSE English and Maths (grade unspecified) and NVQ level 2 during training.

But those.same teachers, are the ones that taught the same sherkers  that are striking

Gaza is "pure carnage".  Parts of Ukraine are "pure carnage".  A tube strike in London is not.  It's merely an inconvenience for some.  There are still buses, taxis, Uber, bicycling and walking.

" Mayor Sadiq Khan faces criticism for his lack of visible leadership during the crisis, as Londoners struggle with transport disruptions"   Khan is not a leader, he couldn't lead a dog!

  • They smell weakness in the mayor/government and are striking while the iron is hot.   They'll probably get it as well.   London is a toilet.

Do UK government workers get to milk overtime too?  It’s unbelievable what they can pull in in the US.  And all those overtime hours count towards their bloated pensions.

I just took a look at what a tube driver does.  It looks pretty simple…and cushy….you even get your own cabin!

It appears that they have a few dozen buttons (some even different colors!) a lever or two and a joystick…seems no more complicated than a Nintendo.  I suppose that’s why the required education levels are so low.

Looks pretty chill.

Now let’s compare it to a Los Angeles bus driver.  Looking online, I see they get about $27.50/hour to start.  32 hours would be part time.  It would be about $46,000/year  (£34,000) with a free bus pass for your dependents.

And the working conditions?   Well….here’s one of them…

  • Exposure to physical and verbal abuse by clients/customers and/or general public

https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/lametro/jobs/5004531/bus-operator?pagetype=jobOpportunitiesJobs

All that for $27.50 an hour to start.  Which really isn’t that bad considering many people work for minimum wage, part time (2 jobs!), with no health insurance.

Fast food workers in LA are well paid…starting at $20/hour.  The bus drivers are getting 37.5% more.

Between being a London tube driver and and LA metro bus driver, at equal pay….I’d take the tube job any day.

Fast food in London appears to get £10-12 per hour.  Add 37.5% and you have £13.75-16.50\hour.  Heck….give them £20\hour to be generous.

That’s £40,000/year to do a job any mouth breathing knuckle dragged can do….with no higher education (and the accompanying debt).

Median is a good wage.

Their salaries should be decreased and they should be happy they have a job.

Better yet….fire them all.

Why do I suspect the median wage is for you an out of touch aspiration ?

Because you’re an extreme leftist.  Baseless assumptions are what you do best.

The government is a stupid ridiculous version of someone trying to put a tax on everything and anything .Give all the hardworking people a fair increase and remove these ridiculous unwanted taxes that are  increased daily..for no sane reason.

Scargill is a strong man who exudes leadership skills and understood the job that he once did, as did his ancestors. He didn't strike for 32 hr weeks, 75% travel concessions and almost £100k salaries like this lot of wimps

Was, and many think Scargill was an idiot too... and Kinnock was also a fail too. Socialism is destined to fail and has never worked. Name me on socialist country that has/is a success? No, didn't think so. The problem with socialism is that it is tempting and works on a family or friends small level... but once you try to scale it up it comes undone, as it doesn't account for indifference and greed plus other human qualities. That's why it always fails.

You have two types od socialism... authoritarian socialism like Cuba/Venezuela/USSR etc. and you have democratic socialism like Sweden etc. Both have/are failing because you end up with disconnent and nonsense, plus being broke and running out of other peoples' money, and having hight taxes etc.

Capitalism isn't perfect and has it's flaws, but it works if people try and strive to succeed... better so than other systems.

Not sure capitalism is any better either,

OK, it was great from 1950-1980, but now a total disaster.

The houses are too expensive to buy, and the women refuse to reproduce with us.

He was definitely an idiot especially when you call a coal/miners strike in the spring of 1984 rather than the previous winter and you tell everyone you are going to do it so by allowing the Thatcher government to stockpile huge reserves of coal stocks and also fail to have a vote on the strike which made it illegal!

Nah, that's just you.

What’s wrong with working people making a good wage?

Inflation.  Budget not balanced, so bonds are going every higher.  Doom debt cycle.  Then everyone loses as country goes bankrupt
