A mattress manufacturing plant in Khao Yoi district, Phetchaburi, was engulfed in flames early morning on 8 September, marking the third major fire at the facility in recent years.

Police Colonel Thip Khengkhoom, Superintendent of Khao Yoi Police Station, along with Police Lieutenant Colonel Sompong Khamthawee, Investigation Officer, rushed to the scene in Huai Rong subdistrict at around 06.30, after receiving reports of the blaze. More than 15 fire engines from the district and surrounding areas were mobilised, assisted by volunteers from the Sawang Sanphet Thammasathan Foundation.

On arrival, firefighters found the production building alight, with flames spreading rapidly through synthetic fibre materials stored inside, flammable stock that accelerated the inferno. Crews fought to contain the fire for over two hours before bringing it under partial control, though water continued to be sprayed to prevent re-ignition due to the intense residue heat.

The factory manager, who was in Bangkok at the time, said he was alerted by staff. By the time he had travelled back the blaze had already consumed mattresses and machinery in the production hall. The precise cause has yet to be determined.

The same factory has suffered devastating fires twice before, most recently on 2 March 2024, when damage was widespread. Police investigators and forensic officers from Phetchaburi Province have now been tasked with determining the cause of this latest incident.

Losses are expected to run into millions of  baht.
