A jealous man in Bang Bo, Samut Prakan, set fire to his girlfriend’s motorbike after discovering she had rekindled her relationship with an ex-boyfriend. The blaze destroyed the vehicle and left his girlfriend in shock, before police quickly arrested him nearby.

The incident occurred late night on the 8 September, outside a house in Khlong Dan subdistrict. CCTV footage captured a man in a raincoat pouring petrol over a Yamaha Fino parked on a concrete walkway before setting it alight. Flames engulfed the bike as the suspect fled.

Police from Khlong Dan station arrived to find the motorcycle, registration from Bangkok, completely gutted by fire. A review of security footage led them to a house just 100 metres away, where they arrested 30-year-old Mr Pen Nueng “Man” Thepouaychai.

During questioning, he admitted to the arson, telling officers he was consumed by anger after his girlfriend resumed contact with her former partner. He confessed to buying petrol from a local shop before carrying out the attack and apologised for his actions.

The victim, 36-year-old Ms Kingkaew, said she had only been dating Man for a few months and denied returning to her ex. She explained that earlier in the evening he had messaged her, asking her to check on her motorbike, but she never believed he would go so far as to burn it.

Her mother, Ms Wichian Tesdee, 60, said she initially thought she had heard an explosion outside, only to discover her daughter’s bike ablaze. She added that the couple had been quarrelling and separated for around two weeks, with Man resentful over her decision to move on.

Police have charged the suspect with arson and are continuing legal proceedings.
