Suvarnabhumi Airport has conducted its annual aircraft removal drill to test operational readiness and reinforce international safety standards. The exercise, held on 11 September from 09.00 to 12.00, simulated the emergency landing of a private aircraft that skidded off the runway due to technical issues and weather conditions. The training aimed to ensure that any obstructed runway could be restored to service quickly, reassuring airlines and passengers of the airport’s preparedness.

The event was led by Kittipong Kittikachorn, Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, under Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT). Senior management, state agencies, airlines and private sector representatives attended the exercise at the project office entrance. Officials emphasised that the drill tested not only response speed but also inter-agency coordination in line with international safety protocols.

The simulation included establishing an operations centre, coordinating with air traffic control, firefighting and rescue operations, runway lighting repairs and inspections of pavement strength. Heavy equipment access routes and staging areas were also set up. All actions were carried out as if under real conditions, culminating in the safe removal of the aircraft and reopening of the runway within a short timeframe.

Airport management stressed that the exercise was not only about testing efficiency but also about enhancing staff skills and strengthening collaboration among agencies. It was designed to build confidence for passengers, airlines and operators in Suvarnabhumi’s ability to manage emergencies and maintain operations. The airport highlighted its commitment to achieving its goal of becoming a global aviation hub while maintaining strict international safety standards.

Kittipong stated that Suvarnabhumi places the highest priority on safety, with every drill serving as a reminder of the airport’s responsibility to prepare for all scenarios. By simulating complex incidents, the airport ensures that staff, equipment, and procedures are ready to minimise risks and resume normal operations quickly. The airport confirmed that lessons learned from the exercise would be integrated into future planning.
