Mystery Woman Found Dead in Chiang Mai River

Authorities in Chiang Mai are investigating after a woman’s body was discovered floating in the Mae Ping River, in Ban Aen Subdistrict, Doi Tao District. The body was found on the afternoon of 12 September 2025 in a decomposed state, with no clothing and the identity of the deceased unknown. Rescue teams from the Tevarit Metta Tham Chiang Mai Association, the Disaster Response Club of Doi Tao and Hod Rescue responded to the scene.

The body was recovered by rescue personnel and police officers from Doi Tao Police Station, who found the woman’s face down in the water. The victim appeared to be an elderly woman, but due to advanced decomposition, authorities were unable to immediately determine the cause of death.

Police conducted an initial forensic inspection at the site but could not establish the cause of death because the body had been in the water for several days and was emitting a strong odour. The body was subsequently sent to the Department of Forensic Medicine at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for autopsy and further analysis.

Authorities are urging relatives of missing women in the area to come forward with information that could assist the investigation. Police emphasised that any leads could be critical to establishing the identity of the deceased and clarifying the circumstances surrounding her death.

Investigators continue to gather evidence from the site and await forensic results to determine if foul play was involved. The case remains open and updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
