A pickup truck driver, lost control on a curve in Trat province, crashing into a barrier before overturning into a roadside canal on 14 September 2025. One woman was trapped inside, while three men escaped, but were also injured. Rescue workers found crystal methamphetamine (“ice”) and drug paraphernalia inside the wrecked vehicle.

Police from Mueang Trat station received a report from local rescue volunteers about the crash on the Trat–Khlong Yai road, between kilometre markers 5 and 6, near Wat Wiwekwararam in Noen Sai subdistrict. At the scene, a white Toyota pickup was found overturned on its roof and heavily damaged. A woman was extracted from the vehicle using cutting tools and taken for medical treatment.

She was identified as Ms. Kanyarat, 23, a resident of Khlong Yai district, who suffered serious facial wounds, body abrasions and a dislocated hip. Three men were also injured and transported to Bangkok-Trat Hospital: Mr. Panupong, 30, the driver; Mr. Kiattisak, 32 and Mr. Amorntep, 25. The pickup was registered in Ms. Kanyarat’s name.

Inside the vehicle, authorities discovered 15 grams of crystal meth in a clear plastic bag, with some packets already dissolved in water. They also found a digital scale, multiple smaller plastic bags and smoking equipment. Investigators believe the drugs were intended for distribution in Khlong Yai district.

Witnesses reported the vehicle was travelling from Mueang Trat towards Khlong Yai when the crash occurred. The driver lost control on a slight curve during rainfall, with the road surface uneven due to recent repairs. The truck struck a barrier, skidded about 50 metres and overturned into the canal, where the cargo scattered across the area.

Police sources confirmed the group was already under investigation as a suspected local drug-trafficking ring. Officers had been tracking their activities before the crash occurred. The discovery of the drugs and equipment has reinforced suspicions that the group was active in Khlong Yai.

Authorities are now continuing their inquiry into the case, examining links to wider drug networks in the province. Evidence collected from the vehicle, including the drugs and paraphernalia, will be used to support further charges. Police are also expected to question the injured once they recover from hospital treatment.
