A taxi was sent plunging into a canal in Khlong Luang, Pathum Thani, on 16 September 2025 after being struck by a pickup truck with failed brakes. A 68-year-old taxi driver was rescued by a civilian after the vehicle sank fully. Emergency services attended the scene, including police, rescue teams and local rescue foundations.

The incident occurred on Liap Khlong Sam Road in front of Mu Ban Pruksa 64, Khlong Sam subdistrict. The taxi, a green-and-yellow Toyota with registration from Bangkok, was driven by Mr Rawee, 68. The pickup, an Isuzu with registration from Bangkok, was driven by Mr Withoon, 57.

Mr Rawee told police he was driving along the road going to pick up passengers when the pickup came down a bridge with claimed failed brakes and collided with his taxi, sending it into the canal. Mr Withoon confirmed his vehicle’s brakes had failed, making it uncontrollable. The taxi ended up fully submerged, but the driver survived thanks to the timely intervention of a passerby.

Mr Kriangkrai Chaisan, 28, a passerby, described seeing the taxi fall into the water with the driver inside. He jumped into the canal and helped Mr Rawee to safety through the car’s window. Police and local rescue units confirmed the taxi remains underwater while the driver received medical checks on-site.

Authorities are investigating the mechanical failure of the pickup truck and reviewing safety measures on the bridge. Mr Rawee is expected to make a full recovery and police are compiling statements from witnesses and the driver of the pickup, as the investigation continues.
