An 85-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle while riding his electric tricycle on Maliwan 201 Road in Loei province. The incident occurred on 18 September 2025 at around 10:00, leaving the victim fatally injured at the scene. Authorities confirmed the vehicle involved is believed to be a large truck that fled immediately after the collision.

Police, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Nopawat Thatchana, Deputy Superintendent of Nong Hin Police Station, responded to reports of the crash near Ban Tad Kha and Ban Huai Phai in Tad Kha Subdistrict, Nong Hin District. Emergency services, including medics from Nong Hin Hospital and Sawang Khiri Tham rescue team, attended the scene. The victim, identified as Mr. Kamdee, was found under his overturned orange-grey tricycle with severe injuries and a long blood trail along the road. His body was taken to Nong Hin Hospital for an autopsy.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Mr. Kamdee may have been either crossing the road or riding on the shoulder when he was hit. No one saw the collision and the vehicle involved, left the scene immediately. Police are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the driver and are pursuing legal action once the suspect is found.

Local residents expressed concern over road safety for elderly riders of electric tricycles and other slow vehicles. Traffic safety experts noted the vulnerability of senior citizens on public roads, particularly on rural highways with large vehicles.

The police investigation is ongoing, with officers combing through surveillance footage and gathering evidence from nearby areas. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the hit-and-run vehicle to come forward. Legal proceedings will follow once the driver is identified and apprehended.

Also quite easy to catch, just wait a day or too. CCTV cameras are everywhere, just need to look for cars before the scene, and after the scene with some damage.

These vehicles should be banned on public roads.

I believe all those electric scooters/trikes are another "grey zone" and not allowed on the highway. Here they are a very rare sight on a highway.

On the other hand they swarm all over the village.

The elderly and handicapped enjoy the ease of movement.

Children don't learn to ride a bicycle anymore.
