A potential bank fraud was stopped in Chachoengsao, Thailand, when a man was intercepted by police attempting to withdraw a large sum of money from a pensioner's account. The intervention occurred on September 18 after alert bank employees at Krungthai Bank’s Provincial Hall branch noticed suspicious behavior. The suspect, identified as 57-year-old Tor from Sisaket, had assisted 71-year-old Samak from Tha Takiap in withdrawing 1 million baht, raising immediate concerns.

Earlier in the day, Tor and Samak visited a Tha Takiap branch to report a lost bank passbook and subsequently requested a new one. The duo then withdrew 300,000 baht from a department store branch, followed by 700,000 baht from the City Hall branch. Bank staff, sensing something unusual, coordinated across branches and followed Samak after leaving the bank alone and confused, while Tor was seen heading towards a car with the cash.

Authorities managed to halt the car and discovered the entire 1 million baht along with several mobile phones in the vehicle. Among the devices was one belonging to Samak, and they also found a note listing names with corresponding bank account numbers, each suggested for a transfer of 990,000 baht. Initial questioning revealed discrepancies in Samak’s account of events, as he first cited withdrawing money for his grandson, only to later admit he didn’t know Tor well.

Further insight came when Samak’s son-in-law, Sapphawi, arrived at the police station. Sapphawi asserted that his father-in-law might have been misled and disclosed that the money was linked to Samak’s deceased wife, having been managed exclusively by her. The police are now delving into the motive behind the attempted scam and if others named on the note were part of a larger operation.

Key Takeaways

  • A suspicious bank staff member's actions thwarted a potential scam involving a large cash withdrawal.
  • Investigations are underway to uncover any broader fraud scheme connections.
  • Assertions arise regarding family ties and the true intentions behind the cash withdrawal.

Oh now let me think what could have been the motive of withdrawing 1,000000 baht from someone else's account ...Mmm

Greed leads some people to do the most despicable things.

There’s only the difference of a vowel between a scam and scum and I say good riddance to this scamming scum. May he rot in prison forever.
