Returning to Thailand after Acquiring New Passport Back in US.

Featured Replies

I use Chaengwattana for my retirement extension and last time renewed my passport in Thailand. How does it operate if now I renew my passport while back in the US and the old passport is made invalid? What happens when you return through customs and your extension and re-entry permit are in the old passport that is now invalid?

It's true the old pp is invalid however any valid visa or reentry permit etc remains valid.

You would not have a valid visa however you have a valid reentry permit protecting your permission of stay stay.

Just present both pp to Thai immigration on arrival.

Make it easy for io and mention reentry permit in old pp.

Note : also present reentry permit in old pp to airline at departure.

They are then not concerned with ongoing flight

Note: when you eventually attend immigration for transfer of stamps make sure you take bank book for proof of compliance.

This requirement is relatively new and does not appear on list of requirements.

Photocopies of pages back to last extension + update required.

Form for immigration.

I assume that you obtained reentry permit at CW.

Has nothing to do with advice return to Thailand however if you obtained permit at airport CW will not transfer it.

No big deal just travel abroad with both pp till next extension

Jomtien has its own transfer stamp application is my understanding.

No issue just collect on arrival.

Suggest you have a TM30.

Bank book rubbish seems to be CW specific

Make sure you get the letter from the embassy asking the Thai embassy to transfer your stamps from your old passport to your new passport. A very good friend of mine failed to do this when he got his US passport renewed in the states. He went down to immigration with both the new and the old passport and they refused to transfer the stamps without the letter from the US embassy asking them to do so. He had to make an appointment and go to Bangkok US embassy to get them to issue him that letter. As with everything immigration related here in Thailand some may have gotten away without having to do this but it's better to be safe than sorry and request that letter from the States along with your new passport.

Many embassies no longer provide the letter you refer to including USA.

Immigration are aware of this. No issue
