A 63-year-old man has been arrested after shooting his 38-year-old nephew in Udon Thani province, resulting in the victim’s death. The incident occurred on 20 September 2025 at 15:30 at a farm hut in Ban Nong Nong, Non Thong In subdistrict, Gu Kaew district. Emergency services reported that the nephew, Mr Narong, was shot in the abdomen with a shotgun and was pronounced dead at Gu Kaew Hospital.

Police and investigators from Gu Kaew Police Station responded to the scene, seizing a long-barrelled shotgun from the victim’s uncle, Mr Thongpon, which belonged to the local volunteer unit. Mr Thongpon voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the scene. Witnesses and family members stated that the victim frequently brought friends to the farm hut to drink alcohol and use drugs, creating repeated disturbances despite repeated warnings.

Mr Thongpon told police that on the day of the incident, his intoxicated nephew arrived at the property threatening him and damaging farm property with an iron rod. Fearing for his safety, he borrowed the shotgun from his brother and fired a single shot to the abdomen of his nephew.

Legal experts have highlighted that self-defence claims in cases involving lethal force are subject to investigation and judicial review. Police have charged Mr Thongpon with murder, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition without a licence. Authorities emphasised the importance of properly reporting threats and handling firearms within legal frameworks.

The case will proceed through the Gu Kaew police investigation and the judicial process, where evidence and witness statements will determine whether self-defence can be legally substantiated. The seized firearm will remain in police custody pending legal proceedings.
