Did you show the TM30 as proof of residence or did they want a resident certificate with photo on?

Residence Certificate with photo.

I must have been lucky , last week I strolled into the Patong branch in Phuket of the Kasikorn bank.

The reason was I wanted to open an account as I had been having problems with my Wise incoming monthly payments sent to the Bangkok bank arriving in the Kasikorn bank and then being transferred by Kasikorn locally to my Bangkok Bank with a code NBD (no book deposit) instead of International transfer.

So I thought,  I better try and open a Kasikorn account and then have my Wise payments sent directly to Kasikorn.

I was asked if I had Thai licence which I had with me , then they checked my visa status being a Non O , they copied my passport and made me sign  few pages. Then gave me a bank book and asked me to deposit sone funds , which I deposited 300 baht .

That was it , 20 mins I was in and out and that included them putting the Kasikorn banking on my phone.

There was no request for a proff of address letter from immigration,  just my Thai licence has it had my address on the back.

This is odd as a licence is not proof of where you are living, only the address you were at when you got the licence, you might have moved and nobody updates them. TM 30 should be enough proof of residence as that is what it is. Apparently not though some want no more than a driving licence some a cert of residence, which is just the same info as a TM 30, but with a photo added and a pretty stamp.

12 months ago, opened a yellow bank account in a central province. Also got App loaded & working. D/L (4/5 years) & passport only. Wifey was with me but no need for her to interpret. 2 lovely ladies with good English. Banks really are a lucky dip.🙃🙃

Maybe it was because I have been at the same address for 23 years , I did also but forgot to mention in my post that I have a Tax ID and I did also show them it although they didnt ask me  , that Tax ID also had my address on it.

As I had my Bangkok bank problems I took recommendations from here(yes I know it can be fraught with danger) and am trying the SCB for a change, went in yesterday to find out what is needed, young lady was very helpful talking mostly to my wife, I have to wait anyway as Im in middle of 30 day hiatus from application to approval, one thing she did ask to check if my current passport is on my sim in my phone other than that its pretty straight forward.

I will keep my bangkok bank acct for all those trivial payments each month or for other purchases.

Oh and yes Bangkok bank have joint accounts well at least for passbooks didnt want to push for a card.

Been at mine 13 years and showed them my tax card, but they were not interested in that.

I have a KBank account that I opened back in 2009, but I haven’t really used it in the past 8-10 years. Right now, there’s only about 100 Baht in it, and I keep the account open just in case I ever need it. Recently, I went to the branch where I originally opened the account to add my face scan and update my passport details. My passport was renewed about 6 years ago, but the account still had my old passport info on file.

The process was straightforward, no forms to sign or photocopies needed like in the old days. Everything was done on a computer tablet with digital photos taken by the tablet, then it captured my digital signature. I also asked if they needed to see a copy of my house registration or my latest visa, knowing that requirements have tightened lately. They said no. And that was it. No questions about my TIN or about my address in my home country. The only thing they asked was about my monthly income, but no request for any documentation. The next day, the face scan was working perfectly in the app. No drama.

I waited about an hour at the branch in Bangkok before my queue number was called, which felt quite long since at most other Thai banks I usually get helped within 5 to 10 minutes. The good thing is that these days you rarely need to visit a Thai bank in person unless you are getting a new ATM card, opening an account, or updating your existing account records.

Strange, may need to provide visa details in the future. Also strange they haven't closed the account which apparently they do if not used in a year

I usually do one or two small cursory transfers in or out each year through the banking app just to keep the account active and avoid possible closure.

The only reason I went to the branch for the face scan was because a couple of app functions got disabled and it told me I had to set up the face scan in person to reactivate them.

While I was there, they also replaced my bank book. It wasn’t full, but they said the new system required a replacement. I didn’t question it further. This time my signature was added twice on their computer tablet instead of writing it directly in the book, which is how it was normally done in the past. Technology!

Kasikorn and SCB allow to order ATM card from the app itself, no branch visit.

Yes, that's very convenient. And what I also like about my Kasikorn Bank debit card ordered from the app is that it has my name on it, unlike the ones I had previous gotten at a branch.
