A late-night blaze erupted in Bangkok’s Bang Bon district on 23 September 2025 after an electric motorcycle caught fire inside a residential property. The flames spread quickly, damaging a nearby vehicle and owners house, before firefighters brought the situation under control. No injuries were reported, but the incident caused significant disruption and property damage.

The Fire & Rescue Service reported that the emergency call came through the 199 hotline at 22:32. The fire began in Soi Bang Bon 5, Soi 12, Bang Bon Nuea subdistrict. Firefighters from Bang Bon Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched immediately to the scene.

By 22:44, crews had arrived to find the electric motorcycle ablaze, with flames spreading to a car and threatening residential properties. Firefighters deployed water hose-lines to contain the fire, preventing further damage to additional houses in the narrow lane.

At 22:53, officials confirmed that the fire had been successfully extinguished. They reported that while the blaze had spread to a car and the home, it was fully brought under control within around 20 minutes of the initial report. Authorities inspected the damage and investigating the cause of the fire.

The incident highlights growing concerns over fire risks linked to electric motorcycles, particularly in densely populated residential areas. Such foresight

When adjusted for the number of vehicles on the road, gasoline-powered vehicles have a significantly higher rate of fires than electric vehicles (EVs), according to Copilot.

Fire Incidence Rates (Per 100,000 Vehicles Sold)

  • Electric Vehicles (EVs): ~25 fires
  • Gasoline Vehicles: ~1,530 fires
  • Hybrid Vehicles: ~3,475 fires

EVs accounted for only 0.02% of total fires in the U.S. in 2020, while gasoline and hybrid vehicles made up the vast majority.

Electric vehicles are statistically less likely to catch fire than gasoline or hybrid vehicles, even when adjusted for their smaller numbers on the road. However, when EV fires do occur, they require specialized handling due to the nature of lithium-ion batteries.

It is this latter statistic that may concern some folks.

I wish there were better higher quality electric scooters for sale, those you see everywhere are really terrible quality and all comes from china  banana cheap.

They had one here and it could have been on fire once, I let it charging overnight where normally  it's done in the morning.

Not this one time, it continued to charge even thou the battery was full, and it overheated so much that the battery and charger were untouchable hot and there was so much smell of burn coming from the battery and electronics. already gave that tricycle away, the other electric scooter we bough in Lazada lasted 9 months.

Yadea is supposed to be good with the graphene battery, however every store I have seen are closed or under construction, and they are very expensive, 40-50,000 baht. I rather buy a Honda wave for that money.
