Proof of Address for Wise

In that case why do they only accept account names stated in the English language format? Not much good if you want to use them for transfers to accounts in Bulgaria, China, Greece, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Taiwan as well as Thailand, I would have thought!

  • I got my initial message for proof of residential address by email. I was able to satisfy this particular requirement by providing a copy of my latest UK bank statement (having checked that my address

  • Ask the bank for the address to be transferred into English, wise will only accept English text. Have your wife have a Thai driving license ?, address should be in English on the back of the lice

  • IMHO we are entitled to know precisely on which regulatory grounds do Wise feel justified in subjecting us to this bureaucratic nonsense. I don't find nebulous and vague statements of this sort convin

Who says they don't accept account names in Thai language? I don't see anything mentioned about that on the Wise site, and they even have a website in Thai language.

The OP asked a QUESTION, and you jumped on this by saying, I don't see them accepting it...............without any evidence to proof your unfounded claim

EDIT : And now the evidenc that they accept Thai language proof of address is deliverd.

Have to be careful with this one I have just had a bit of a nightmare with mine turned out was quite easy in the end.

Basically i am from the UK registered my Wise account with my Thai address using my bank statement and that's fine they let me do that and type in an address that wasn't exactly how it was on my bank statement, then they send me a please confirm your address or we will suspend your account email so I tried to re type the address and it wouldn't accept it, just kept on saying the address doesn't look right.

So I copied and pasted the address exactly how it was on the bank statement and it worked, I think there is some kind of country look up on the address that you use on your registered address to ensure it actually exists and it worked

Can anyone tell me if the 'Red Banner' disappears when you have confirmed your address? If you do not confirm, does it remain?  I got the banner on Tuesday morning when I opened the Wise app.  I clicked on the banner and then on the button marked 'confirm address'.  I expected to be taken to a page where I would have to supply some more information, but nothing happened.  I closed the app and later reopened it, expecting to see the banner, but no, nothing, no mention of confirming my address.

I then logged-in to the Wise website on my laptop and there was no sign of the red banner and, again, no mention of confirming my address. I then checked my email and found one from Wise, from the previous day,  asking me to confirm my address, again with a button to press. However, the button had the text blanked out but I clicked on it and the action took me back to the 'home' page of my account.  Still no mention of confirming address.

Later in the day I received a payment to my Wise account and also made a transfer. Both actions were as normal with the transfer to Thailand being 'in seconds'. still no mention of confirming address.  Is it possible that I have confirmed simply by clicking on the 'confirm' button?  It is rather concerning as i use Wise quite often and would be 'lost' without its convenience.

This is a bit of guesswork, but it could be that the character set is not the problem, it could be mismatches between the name registered with Wise and that of the recipient account.  If an transfer is set up in Wise to a name in Arabic script and the recipient account has a name also in Arabic script then there's a match and the transfer proceeds.

If a Wise recipient name is transliterated into English and there is no match with the account name in Thai or Arabic or whatever then no transfer.

It would be useful if those sending to Thai recipients can confirm whether this holds true.

ETA:  There is also the indication that one transfer partner is stricter with the matching requirements so some transliterated names may work if another transfer partner is used.

ETA2:  This also means what Wise told your wife was incorrect, but that wouldn't be a first.

I have heard of at least one other user where that appears to be the case.

Did the request come via e mail or on Wise webpage ?

Via e-mail.

Following my post on here she clicked the link in the email which took her to her a/c with Wise and re-entered her address details changing the city from "Bangkok" to the name of our amphur and then entered Bangkok as the province which was previously blank. A message then popped up saying they would contact her if they needed any additional info.

This she did this last Sunday and nothing further from Wise other than an email confirming she rec'd some funds today, Wednesday.

Thanks for the reply, I hope you are right!

I have just read that the UK pension can be sent to Thailand free of charge .

If that is the case what is the advantage of using Wise ?

The exchange rate - plus, you are in control of when you send it.

I suspect those using wise to transfer their pension from the UK, are claiming to live in the UK so get the annual pension increases

You will also have received a message to say that they have received your confirmation and they will contact you again if they need more information.

I did.

Sorry , I missed that....Thanks

Now WISE are lying about the transfer .

Originall they told me that the transfer would not be made until I verified my address.

Now I have just received this

Sorry, it’s looking like your transfer of GBP to THB will arrive later than expected.

Lots of people are using Wise at the moment, so it’s taking us longer to process transfers. It should now arrive on October 02, at 07:07 UTC.

We’ll let you know the moment your money’s on its way — and sorry again for the wait.

I can vouch for this on the basis of personal experience, thank you very much! A while back I tried to make a token Wise transfer to my wife's BBL account. In setting up her account details on Wise I attempted to record her account name as stated in Thai script. However, it only proved possible for me to record her account name in English script. So I did this and, guess what, the transfer didn't subsequently get credited to her BBL account!

@treetops - a more emollient version of what I've said might also be of interest to you!

It should disappear, but it could re-appear if Wise subsequently decide that they want more info from you as they did in my case.

Yes, that would put my theory back in it's box, but again brings up what you questioned earlier as to how do Thais, Arabs etc etc use Wise?

And to support this I just tried to add a new recipient and got this when entering in Thai:

No sign of any email from them in my case, just the standard blurb on their website:

Your money's taking longer to pay out

Sorry for the wait — we need a bit more time to process your transfer. We'll keep you posted.

I have, however, emailed them with a complaint about the delay - for what good that might do.

Thanks for that.  I am hoping that I have 'satisfied' them by 'clicking the button' so I will wait and see what happens in the next few days.   The deadline was 27th October so there is a little 'wiggle' room if they do require further info.

Sorry if I’m being a bit slow, but after reading the whole thread I’m still unclear ....

does this issue affect Wise accounts registered in the UK with a UK address and bank details, or is it only for Wise accounts registered in Thailand?

The latter, I think.

Before my Wise address was UK and sending to my Thai bank account.

Will they require anything in that scenario ?

Are you all registered in Thailand with Wise..is that the issue ?

If they start raising flags about UK-registered accounts sending money here, that's a whole different headache to sort out, even if it's just a small, annoying irritation. Let's hope for the simpler scenario!

I got my UK license address updated for such an event and maintain my UK property ownership anyway.
