Legally, without a doctor's script ... NO

Rules supposedly strictly enforced now, as recreational smoking in public, was never allowed.  Sort of like prostitution, but they've actually enforced the cannabis law of late, or so we've read.

https://aseannow.com/topic/1369932-thailand-shuts-1000-cannabis-shops-in-sweeping-crackdown/

But, this is TH, so it will be hit or miss, finding a shop selling buds to smoke without a script.  Plenty of online vendors if you can't find a shop willing to sell to you.

I don't indulge myself, and since you're not a new member (incognito PoPo) maybe someone at Patts will chime in, send you a PM to point you in the right direction.    Use extreme discretion if planning to smoke in public, as in, secluded spot surfside away from folks, hopefully the with wind going outward to the sea.

Good Luck

Nothing has changed.

Same as always, just be an adult and don't invade other's space. Take a stroll on beach away from families and smoke.

Good thing to know that Unnecessary 'thumbs down' emoji removed. coz sometimes I say w Good morning

and I get a thumb down, so from now on U have who complain to😁

Nothing has changed yet as far as I can tell.  At least not in Pattaya.  You can still buy weed everywhere without jumping through any hoops.  You were never technically allowed to smoke it in public.

I haven't had much problems with people smoking it in public, a while back we was outside a Starbucks at 8 am and a guy lite a joint up and the wind was blowing in our direction, It was really strong it was giving me headache never mind my wife she never smoked, There is no smoking signs, The beach is across the road I told him to go and smoke there,

one thing has changed. The police may be allowing or turning the other cheek to sellers of weed in Pattaya. But let the police catch you smoking or with weed on you and see what happens if you did not bother to get the medical certificate required. You will be having to pay a huge bribe or fine and maybe criminal charges.

The good news is that there are many shops who can get you the medical certificate as long as you are telling them it is for neural pain or to help you sleep or some other nonsense in their list. I am sure the shop can tell you what to say if the doctor even bothers to ask.

Nonsense. The Thai police are currently running a no drugs campaign. Testing employees and customers in the bars. But they made it very clear they are not testing for cannabis.

If there was an actual certificate needed, they would certainly test for it.

Are you in Thailand now, and do you have a med cert, or are you just making up stories?

I think you are the one lost in your own world.Thailand requires certificate now to use cannabis. The police can demand that. They can test for it as well at any bar or just asking you on the street to pee into their test.

@KhunLA There is nothing that I made up. I didn't post an unrelated link about crackdowns nor did I suggest that some cannabis law was being enforced.

That, IMO, is just muddying the waters. OP wanted to understand the experience in Pattaya, rather than some generic info that you read somewhere and extrapolated from that.

Why do you continue to post lies?

You need a medical certificate to buy and smoke weed in thailand now. If caught you can be charged and made to pay a fine or arrest. https://www.nationthailand.com/health-wellness/40054835

https://www.tatnews.org/2025/06/cannabis-flower-now-strictly-regulated-in-thailand-important-notice-for-tourists/

@thesetat Are you in Pattaya? If not, then it's you posting the lies then, isn't it?

What can you tell the OP about his likely experience in Pattaya?

I guess nothing. Just more cut and pasted generic links.

The shops will adapt if their licences are at risk. The OP does not need to concern himself.

So now we have two posters who aren't in Pattaya and likely haven't been there for many years, cutting and pasting links and scaremongering.

Can either of them post even a single report that anyone was stopped and asked for a medical certificate?

If they cannot, then why are they suggesting that the OP should be in fear of that?

The police can check people anytime for any reason. But there is no medical certificate needed, that was the last govt administration. The current PM is the one that legalized weed originally. Do try to keep up.

Where is your link to show that law has changed?

@thesetat Can you post a link to show where the laws on prostitution have changed? But yet...

When someone asks a question about Pattaya, they don't need unrelated generic cut and paste.

Are you in Pattaya or even in Thailand?

nothing generic about what links i sent. TAT website does not lie. It is for all of Thailand. The laws do not change simply because you are in Pattaya. Rather they are stretched to give room for the police to collect money when wanting to. But it is still the law to have a medical certificate to use cannabis in Thailand. The OP asked specific question about this...

By the way... It is none of your business where I am albeit Thailand, pattaya, or timbuktu. If the answer is the truth and accurate.

@thesetat Your answer is neither the truth nor accurate. As for the TAT website.... what does that have to do with anything? They often produce interesting articles with amazing figures that no one believes.

I don't know anyone who needed a medical certificate. Do you? It seems that you have no real knowledge of anything at all. Simply just cutting and pasting links and filling in spaces with your opinion. I guess your last line is a confession that you aren't in Pattaya and possibly not even in Thailand. Sad.

That's the thing, there was never a new law in 2025, only new rules. If you ever been to Thailand before, you would know that some rules are meaningless here, depending on who is in charge.
