A 71-year-old man was killed instantly when his motorcycle was struck by a passenger bus at a busy intersection in Udon Thani city on 2 October. The incident sparked further controversy after the bus driver clashed with reporters at the scene, leading to an additional police complaint.

Police Lieutenant Trongsop Khamjai, Deputy Inspector at Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, received the crash report at 15:30. The collision occurred at Ban Kao Noi intersection, on the route leading to Nong Khai province. Emergency responders found a bus operating on the Udon Thani–Nam Som route with local registration had collided with a motorcycle.

The victim, identified as Mr. Thanong, 71, from Mak Khaeng subdistrict, was found dead at the scene with severe head injuries and a broken left leg. The bus driver, 38-year-old Wasan, told police he was turning right under a green light when the motorcycle suddenly cut across in front of him, causing the crash.

However, eyewitnesses offered conflicting accounts. Some claimed the motorcyclist moved forward quickly on a green signal, while the bus may have passed through as the lights changed from yellow to red. Police confirmed these statements would form part of the investigation to determine fault.

The case drew further attention when the bus driver reacted angrily to reporters covering the crash. Witnesses said Wasan questioned a journalist’s legitimacy, before shouting expletives including, “You think you’re so important?” and ordering them to leave. The reporter later filed a complaint with police, accusing him of verbal abuse and intimidation.

Investigators are now gathering CCTV footage, witness statements and traffic light sequencing data to clarify events. Authorities have confirmed both the fatal crash and the separate complaint against the bus driver will be pursued in accordance with the law.
