Gunmen clashed in a crowded nightlife area in Montgomery, Alabama, leaving two dead and 12 injured. The chaos erupted late Saturday evening as rival shooters opened fire, creating panic in the bustling district. Authorities described the incident as a “mass shooting” with three victims suffering life-threatening injuries.

The shootout began around 11:30 p.m., when two groups exchanged gunfire amidst a crowd. Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys confirmed the details, stating the gunmen were indifferent to civilian safety. He assured the public that police were actively gathering evidence and interviewing suspects, although no arrests had been made by early Sunday.

Witnesses were shaken by the violence, describing a scene of fear and confusion. Emergency services rushed to the site, transporting the severely injured to nearby hospitals. Chief Graboys emphasised the commitment of law enforcement to bringing those responsible to justice, pledging to pursue every lead available.

Looking forward, investigators are working tirelessly to piece together the events of the night. The police department is seeking public assistance in identifying the suspects involved. As the investigation proceeds, authorities are focused on ensuring the downtown area’s safety and preventing further incidents.

Quick let's all argue about left vs right. In Chicago this weekend 4 people were killed and 18 wounded.

Guns are awesome.

And despite what some moronic foreigners who think some new gun law would fix this problem no new law will change that culture.  Nor will it disarm them.  What will?  I have no idea.

Perhaps Trump should go after criminal gangs rather than go after cities. Guns creat the false bravado that leads to violent acts. Gang laws provide more tools for enforcement. Laws should target criminal enterprise. More laws are needed. My 2 cents worth of ideas

President Trump, your response?  Send in the 51st Airborne?  Invade Alabama?

You don't think gun control would help.

I think it's the only thing worth trying now.

Assault weapons ban for sure.  However, the US has gone so far right that it's not going to happen anytime soon.  They have FAR bigger problems now that they are basically an authoritarian country.  However, there is an opening now since Republicans and SCOTUS have basically decided to ignore anything in the Constitution that is not convenient for them, so they can't wave that around as an excuse anymore.

It won't make a lick of difference.  I've seen estimates that there are over 300 million guns in America.  How do you get them back?  I assure you even if they can pass a constitutional amendment to make that legal there will be little cooperation in it.  And even if MOST Americans would turn them in the ones who won't are exactly the ones committing most of the shootings now.

As to comments "assault weapons ban" total nonsense.  Most of these criminals carry a handgun not any sort of rifle.  And many of them install a "switch" that is easily manufactured via 3D printing.  That switch converts a semiautomatic Glock into a full-auto spray gun.  And they have no clue where those bullets are going they close their eyes and spray in the general direction of their perceived enemy.

On second thought there are laws that might help.  Toughen the laws for a felon caught with a gun and no plea bargains.  Allow police to stop and search suspicious characters (stop calling racism or harassment) and arrest those caught.  Make the sentences harsher and no early release.  No bail.  And sadly since criminal gangs figured out using underage members to commit crimes since the system goes easy on them lower the age of trial as an adult.

I dunno.  Maybe good old fashioned police work and harsh judicial punishment for those committing a violent felony with a gun.

As to this particular shooting I guarantee many of the victims and witnesses KNOW who was doing the shooting but..... well no one will talk.  It's why shooters are rarely caught in these events.

This really has nothing to do with Trump or the federal government.  It has to do with laws and enforcement at the state and local levels.  And MOST of those places already have enough laws on the books.  I'm OK making laws stricter regarding use of a gun in a violent crime.  And no plea deals.  No bail.  No early release serve the entire sentence.

Even so in certain cultures in the USA there will be no change as they are in a circular self destruct pattern.  They accept they will spend a portion of their lives in prisons and die young.  Hard to reach people like that.

A perfect picture of this cowboy country.

God bless America 🥳

So you don't know, we have a consensus there at least. Ultimately, stopping gun killings requires political will to treat this as a public health crisis, not a partisan fight—82% of Americans support basics like background checks. The "moronic foreigners" jab overlooks successes abroad, but the core insight is right: Culture evolves through collective action, not edicts. Without tackling poverty, trauma, and glorification alongside smarter access rules, we'll keep losing ~125 lives daily. Progress is possible—2024 saw a 17% drop in urban homicides—but it demands investment in people, not just debates.

Gunfights have always been an integral part of American Mythology.

It's just second-nature for Americans to resort to gun play.

Guns are EVERYWHERE.

Gun-play has become normalized everywhere in America.

The resorting to guns, on any given Sunday, has become completely normalized in the United States.

Americans GLORY in Guns....

Guns don't kill.

And, neither does smoking tobacco.

Americans believe what they like.

and, just how do you believe that the govt would be able to collect the billions of weapons currently within the population?

Yeah, gun control with billions of weapons among the populace...sorta like they have made many drugs illegal and look how well the cutting that off has gone.

That’s easy when someone gets in trouble if they have guns confiscate them.other nations have made huge differences with strict gun control. One of my favorite shows on TV is called first 48 no actors just the detectives doing their jobs…chilling tv most of the violence is over really really petty stuff.Im thinking this particular horror is most likely armed young people (gang bangers possibly) and some pettey turf war …..just stupid stuff sad 😞 and so it goes…..

It’s his watch and he hold much power in his sway to stop the proliferation of guns. He has the power to push Congress to enact more laws against criminal gangs. For a start, he should stop his violent rhetoric and opposition to gun control.

Moronic foreigners, did you pick that up from Dirt Bag Donnie. Americans are such god loving people. So why do they carry weapons in the first place

Don't you know?

Everyone in the US carrying guns make the US the safest country on earth.......if you ignore all the gun deaths that is.

Ultimately there is no political will (backbone?) to do anything about guns in the US.

Even those steps that might be consider will have no impact.....just window dressing.

The US is basically doomed to massacres, mass shooting, accidental shootings, drive-by shootings........this situation will, at best, not improve, but more likely get worse.

I'd bet dollars to donut holes that every participant on both sides of the gunfight was out on parole or bail or early release.  Released because they had a tough childhood and aren't responsible for their crimes.

Maybe they should.

Let's see...  How did Montgomery vote?  Because it's the local gub'ments that decide whether they're going to hold criminals responsible, or release them because they had a tough childhood.
