Your Thai Wife’s Gold Obsession Might Make Her Smarter Than YOU

Featured Replies

The Complete Guide to Buying Gold in Thailand - Offshore in Asia

You know the scene: she walks into a jewellery shop, eyes lighting up at the gold necklaces, bangles, and rings. You roll your eyes, mutter “another one?”—but maybe she’s not just shopping for sparkle. With gold hitting record highs globally, your wife’s obsession might actually be the smartest investment move in your household.

  • Gold has surged past $4,000 per ounce this year, the biggest jump since 1979. Central banks are buying, ETFs are inflowing, and geopolitical tensions are driving demand. (Reuters)

  • Analysts are split: some predict short-term dips as investors take profits, others forecast further rises to $4,900 by 2026. (Kitco) (Business Insider)

  • Thai gold is a firm favourite because it’s high purity, widely recognised, and retains resale value—making jewellery a mix of fashion and investment.

Next time she heads to the shop, consider that she’s not just indulging herself, she might be safeguarding your household wealth.

  • Are you keeping up with her gold purchases or secretly hoping she stops?

  • Do you think global gold trends will make Thai gold even more valuable?

  • Have you found yourself learning a thing or two about investments thanks to her obsession?

Giving your wife YOUR money, is not an investment.

Come TEOTWAWKI, shelf stable foods and bullets (and maybe a fortress/bunker to keep them in) are the best investments you could make.

Her 'obsessions' are mainly shoes, handbags, beauty products and vitamin supplements.

Meanwhile she has only debt, no ability to earn money, no skills, no savings, no pensions.

So no, I don't think I can learn anything about saving for the future from Thai women.

Thought she was earning money by helping elderly people.

If you are married, it is your debt too.

Wife ..  as in married / team / together   "OUR" money    I worked and she stayed home to help raise my son for 12 years

we've made it a point to put money aside every month and buy 2 or 5 baht bars

just cashed in 20 baht of bars that we had back from a cost of 22000

next batch goes at 75000

As long as my passport works, I have no debt in Thailand.

From my personal experience with Thai women and gold they see it as a future investment  until they are short of money and they cash it in regardles of the price.

From my observations and extended family actions, they arrely "cash it in" but they will often hand it over for a loan and pay interest monthly until they are in a better position can get it back.

Reflecting on the gold prices recently. Relly no different than my retirement stock investments ... from the perspective that we can eat/drink neither one. Worse comes to worse ... ask the hungry around the globe/
