crackdown on streaming ?

Featured Replies

I started a thread about streaming a few weeks ago.

But anyway, just came across this.

It's possible Thai authorities will start cracking down.

You would think that law enforcement would have more pressing issues than going after people in their homes watching movies.

The title of the OP would be more accurate if it was, "Crackdown on ILLEGAL streaming?" Kind of like the difference between 'immigration' and 'illegal immigration.

I would think that people would have better things to do than steal services from a company and then complain when they are expected to stop stealing.

Anyone paying for a service isn't stealing.

What next ? They will use this law as an excuse to raid your home if you have Amazon Prime TV or Netflix ?

There are different levels.

If you're talking about a bar showing content from a provider who didn't pay for it, the top level would be to go after the provider, then the bar, then unlikely the bar patrons.

If you're talking about people streaming unpaid for content at home via torrents or stremio, etc. that's in the west a big target but hasn't been here.

Then there are people selling subs to home users just like the bars. Similar issues.

Will there be crackdowns on this stuff? Don't know. At what levels if so. Don't know. Stay tuned.

It's almost certainly referring to NON-PAID streaming ie Torrenting.

If you are using a paid streaming site, then everyone is happy.

erm... not quite true...  We pay for IPTV services...  WizzTV etc...    providing Apple TV, Prime, Netflix, Paramount+, Disney+ and all other streaming services from around the world, anything you can think of, they've got it... live TV, Premier League football etc...

Its stealing and anyone who subscribes to such a site knows it is.

so that means if I stream free porn from a website, they can come up my a**ss ? 🤣

So will VPNs shield us from this issue?

Not entirely......for run of the mill use they can't 'see' what you are up to.......but if you get flagged, then they have resources to track you down......highly unlikely though.

Let's just say they prefer if you spend money at local massage parlors than masturbating to free online porn from the Czech Republic.

Try a decent VPN, I can watch online movies and even have a bet on the nags, without a VPN this is impossible.

The usual Integrity Legal scaremongering, first on the subject of income taxes, now about streaming.

That guy clearly likes to hear his own voice.

Yes of course illegal IPTV services are just that.......illegal, and there are organisations that trace the providers and take them down if they can, but they are often back online already before they have exited the premises.

Going after the end user is just scaremongering, since it is an impossible task. Those services have tens, maybe hundreds, of thousands of customers. So that would need as many thousand court orders to identify them from their IP address, and then again as many thousand court orders to indict them.

Not gonna happen ever, as the cost will be higher than the result.

Easier of course with bars that have 4 - 5 screens with IPTV, as they are easy to raid and take down, but not so for the person who is watching it in a private environment.

In the UK they have those vans driving around to know if you are watching without paying your TV licence.

LOL, those vans are empty

this is so true.

Nothing new.  Remember Expat TV?  The authorities can crack down as much as they like, but it won't make much difference.
