Can DTAC SIM connect to True cell towers?

Featured Replies

I have been using DTAC for many years but I've got the impression that coverage is getting worse, especially regarding 5G in rural areas.

I know that DTAC has merged with TRUE, and I was expecting that their networks would merge too, so that e.g. DTAC SIMs could connect to TRUE cell towers and vice versa.

But from my observation of worsening coverage this doesn't seem to be the case.

Or do I need to get a new SIM card from DTAC for this? (My current SIM is a couple of years old).

Do you see a 5G at all? (when in town/on the road)

What type of mobile phone you have?

I am on AIS and my phone is not 5G enabled. Zero problems, very good coverage travelling 600 km down south.

I think it's best to visit a True/DTAC service to verify.

Information on the net is not really clear.

No new SIM?

5G "activation" necessary?

Great article which answers most of my questions.

Apparently the technical merge was work in progress and hopefully is finished now. So speed and coverage should have improved.

I had 5G coverage before but not so much in rural areas. So hopefully this has improved now, I will find out soon.

I recently arrived back in Thailand with my OnePlus Nord CE3 bought in India.  Earlier in the year when I was here it used to connect to 5g but now it does not.

It seems from the Nation article that they have switched to n7 2600 MHz which my phone does not support.

Not a new article but still some interesting info.

Article doesn't mention n7 at all. Perhaps you mean n41.

OnePlus Nord CE3 5G band capability: 1, 3, 5, 8, 28, 40, 41, 78 SA/NSA

Can you see Thailand within the link you have posted?  You seem to really want an outcome that doesn't exist in reality. It's n41, not n7.

I'm making the point that the same phone before the merger used to work.

That's all.

The frequency link was just stating n7 being 2600 MHz.

Sorry. I'm not trying to be antagonistic.

I have a Poco X6 Pro that has been serving as a SIM card holder as I didn't like the HyperOS interface but I guess it will get a run out now.

OP here, I have been back in Thailand for 3 weeks and now I am getting excellent 5G coverage and speeds even in rural areas with my DTAC SIM, much better than last year. So it seems the technical merger of TRUE and DTAC networks was completed successfully.

My phone: OnePlus 12, purchased in Europe.

Supported bands:

GSM: 850/900/1800/1900MHz

WCDMA: Bands 1/2/4/5/6/8/19

LTE FDD: Bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28A/28B/30/32/66/71/

LTE TDD: Bands 38/39/40/41/48

5G NR: n1/n2/n3/n5/n7/n8/n12/n20/n25/n28A/n28B/n30/n38/n40/n41/n66/n71/n77/n78

True and Dtac have merged ( unfortunately but true)  there should be no difference between cell towers now.

Mobile operators in Thailand mainly use two spectrum bands for 5G — band n28 (700MHz) and band n41 (2.6GHz). The former provides wider coverage, but the latter ensures higher capacity — and, as a result, better throughput and faster speeds for mobile users.

I don't know why I wasn't subscribed to this topic.  I will fix that.
I am back in Chiang Mai and just tried my Poco X6 Pro which the specs says supports the right bands but if I choose manual select I only see up to 4G options.

I don't really fancy my chances of getting anywhere at a regular DTAC/True shop.

In the *#*#4636#*#* menu/settings

Carrier type is NR/LTE/TDSCDMA/GSM/WCDM

Here in the DTAC app it says 700 MHz but I don't know if the app text has just not been updated.

Well I just put the oven on, preparing to bake some humbe pie.

I went to the same desk in the True/DTAC shop in Central Airport Chiang Mai.  I spoke to the same person I did when I'd just returned to Thailand.  She took my Poco phone which had the DTAC SIM in it.  Did something on her computer and said there you go 5G.

I switched the SIM back to my OnePlus phone and also got 5G on the 2600 MHz band.  This is the info from the Netmonster app on the OnePlus Nord CE3.
