Electric problem

Featured Replies

Hello, I didn't find a special forum for "electricity", so I write here

I plugged a cable that connects a computer monitor to a wall outlet, which I use every day without any problems. This time, there was a "bang" and a loud flash. I immediately removed my hand and saw that the cable was damaged on one side. The question is: is it the cable or the outlet? Note that the computer monitor no longer turned on, which is why I wanted to test it on another outlet.

thank you

Any photos?

It sounds like the insulation has broken down and the wires have shorted the circuit.

I take it the RCCB has tripped?

Definitely sounds as if the cable insulation has broken down - it will burn at the point of failure until either the circuit trip/fuse reacts, or the cable burns through. Try another cable.

Yes, I think ( and hope )  it's only the cable, I removed it immediately

electricity didn't stop, the outlet from outside is absolutely normal
