Looking for Medical Insurance Options

Featured Replies

Hello All,

We are moving to Thailand next month.

Myself, 67 - USA.  Wife, 50 - dual citizenship Thai / USA.

Have read related threads.

Will need coverage on arrival for her complex pre-existing condition.

Looking for suggestions for coverage which will actually pay when needed.

short term travel insurance?

long term coverage after arrival?

Thanks

Roman

Get your travel insurance from the US, then when needed get the health insurance there also, Thailand companies don't cover pre-existing conditions

she can get the 30bht coverage in any gvt hospital and if you are willing to fork out a bit it will be cheaper for you to pay as you go. There are some really good gvt hospitals also bad ones. If she has thai citizenship why pay?

Complex pre-existing conditions will not be covered by any insurer if those conditions were there before signing the contract.

Your best bet is the government insurance available for free for Thai nationals.

US insurers will also not cover those severe pre-existing conditions.

on the Facebook groups you'll get all the piranha insurance agents offering all sorts

A bit of common sense is needed.  If you already have a pre-existing condition, why would any insurer want to pick up the tab for when you need medical treatment for that condition?  If you shop around, you should find insurance but it will exclude all pre-existing conditions, unless those conditions have been 'dormant' for many years.

(Insurance companies are businesses, not charities).

Thanks for the responses.

Looking for a way to manage medical costs.

A long stay in the hospital with specialized care will be difficult with limited funds.

I do understand the insurance game, however we still need a way to manage a serious health issue.
