A 14-year-old girl from Chiang Mai, whose hand was severed in a violent gang attack, has returned home after successful surgery. The attack occurred on September 16th, when a gang injured three students, mistakenly targeting the girl due to her hoodie. She was taken to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital where surgeons reattached her hand in a 20-hour operation.

Police apprehended 15 suspects, including a Myanmar national who confessed to the mistake. The incident prompted widespread social media praise for the surgical team’s expertise. Post-surgery, 90% of the essential hand components were restored, including tendons, nerves, an artery, and veins through flap motoring surgery.

Doctors reported the girl's discharge after 24 days of hospitalisation, stating her hands showed excellent blood circulation and no signs of infection. Despite some limitations in sensation, her recovery is progressing with rehabilitation therapy. Her mental health has shown improvement thanks to care by child psychiatrists.

Key Takeaways

  • The girl's hand was severed in a mistaken gang attack and later reattached.
  • Police arrested 15 suspects, one of whom confessed to the mistake.
  • The surgery was successful, restoring 90% function, with ongoing recovery.

Further confirmation that Thai surgeons are highly skilled.

Some good news for a change. I'm happy for the kid.

Lock up the guilty and throw away the key, or do the same to them. Wishful thinking sadly. Hope the poor lass recovers mentally.

As in all nations... some are, some sadly are not.
