Is Thailand's immigration policy far-right?

Featured Replies

This is Steve Laws of the Homeland Party. He's a far-right neo-Nazi racist white nationalist extremist from the UK. Citations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeland_Party_(United_Kingdom).

Below he outlines what looks like a very sensible immigration policy and I can't help but notice this looks more or less like what Thailand does and probably the overwhelming majority of all countries in the world. As an expat in Thailand I think that's a good policy and I would vote for that here, in  America or in the UK. (BTW "close the borders" means no more legal immigrants, not tourists).

So does this mean Thailand is far-right?  I would argue Thailand is the sensible country and the UK along with America and the other usual suspects are actually the extremists in the global minority.

I.e not brainwashed clowns. Take note though wanting what's best for you and your own people is now far-right and most certainly the most evil ideology known to man.

Trump is an old man and he will be gone soon. I predict everything is going to be reverted back to where it was before and even more for revenge. Compared to Steve Laws or just any politician in Thailand Trump would be practically left wing on immigration

In general even Americans still want more people as if it's not already crowded and expensive enough. So no I don't see America maintaining it's historical character whatsoever.

No I go back once a year to Colorado for 2 months when it's much nicer than Thailand in the summer. Long term though we're going to get squeezed on all sides and only get harder.

They should open their borders for the sake of diversity.

I don't understand what these individuals are thinking. Is the West determined to self-destruct?

Brainwashed to believe taking your own side is evil. My hometown is like this. They complain endlessly about too many people but support immigration and live in a sanctuary city (Colorado). It's stockholm's syndrome as far as I'm concerned.

and on this...very well then because they're protecting their own people in the process. Having rulers that are protecting the country out of self preservation is 100x better then what we have now.

That is exactly what happened to me down at the massage shop this afternoon.

It is only Americans who voted for Trump.

The rest of the West will be fine.

"Far Right" is a term used to disparage anyone who holds traditional and nationalistic ideals.  Thailand is very traditional in many ways, and it is highly nationalistic.  But the term "Far Right" which is used to disparage others is pretty much held in reserved to be used against white, anglo-saxon, celtic individuals.  Thailand, as well as the rest of the non-white world who hold traditional values and are nationalistic, and therefore who actually prosecute their immigration laws - well - that group of people get a pass.  I don't know why, but they do.  So that group of expats who live in Thailand and obey Thai immigration laws to the letter, and yet call those who want immigration laws followed in their home countries - "Far Right?"  I don't understand them.  It's a conundrum; a riddle wrapped in an enigma.  Very strange behavior.  But it seems to be part and parcel the behavior of the Far Left and the Progressive Left. Very odd.

It's nothing like Thailand does. Thailand lets everyone in like literally. The country is more woke than UK because they love money even more.

Thailand is destroying Thailand even faster than UK. The only problem is that they let everyone in and you still have zero rights. Actually you have -100 rights as you have to pay more to visit a hospital.

That is the definition of "Nationalism,"  and Thais as a whole are highly nationalistic.  But Thais, unlike the "liberal" Left, don't see being highly nationalistic as being a bad thing.  They embrace their nationalism.  But a white Westerner like myself.  If I espouse nationalism and urge my Congressional representatives to protect US national interests as well as the interests of those born in America - well, then we are labelled as being closely akin to Nazis.

Funny how that works 'eh?   We Westerners really live an a Fubar'ed society.  Which actually is one the the driving reasons that I live here and not there.

Looking at the immigration rules and the enforcement, no it’s not even close to anything far-right whatever is meant by that. The rules to gain PR and citizenship are not that far from the average in the world, actually nowadays the laws are easier than in many western countries as everyone is racing to make it harder.

Enforcement is what it is for a typical third world country.

The hardest thing is the bureaucracy but even that can somewhat be dealt with agents if you have the money. Also the effect of individual ministers to the process is quite big.

It’s just that they haven’t signed the refugee convention so they don’t have to battery-farm the country full of fake refugees who make 10 applications. Also there is barely any welfare system so the incentives aren’t that big.

No, if some retired boomer cannot get PR or citizenship by marrying some bar girl from Isan, it does not make the country far-right.

Their issue is the incompetent government that has failed to reform the education system and is currently in the process of buying votes for the next election yet again, and the cycle repeats. Not that the west has had good governments lately, far from it.

Paying for your own medical care is now described as not having rights?

I thought you white westerners immigrated in the USA overran the indigenous population?

Inflated medical costs.

Imagine the outrage if the same applied  to toasties from 7

.... or BEER

I found it very easy to immigrate to Thailand

Just bought a plain ticket, filled out a few forms, transferred some money over and that was it.
If you want to get a work permit similar, just fill out a few forms.

If you want citzenship, just fill out a few more forms.
No interview, no questions asked.

Too easy.

I have to say it is very nice here.

Sounds like Boulder, CO.

Not far right and not far wrong,Just right so far     Lets just remember,  just like being gay or black or  jewish there is nothing inherently wrong in being right wing, that is a lefty construct.    It should never be used negatively
