A 58-year-old stepfather has confessed to fatally assaulting his 43-year-old stepson, who had a long-standing mental illness, in Kalasin province. The victim, Mr. Chatchawan, was found dead outside a home in Mueang District on the evening of 15 October 2025, suffering blunt-force trauma to the head and face.

Police quickly gathered evidence and took the suspect, Mr. Tiang, into custody. Authorities, including the Kalasin Provincial Police and local community leaders, accompanied him to recreate the crime scene at three key locations: a grocery store where he bought alcohol, a neighbour’s yard where he drank until intoxicated and the front of the victim’s home, where he struck the victim with two long wooden planks while he slept.

Mr. Tiang admitted that he had lived with the victim’s mother for nearly ten years and had long suffered abuse from Mr. Chatchawan, who frequently demanded money and threatened or assaulted family members and neighbours. On the day of the killing, the stepson allegedly demanded 200 baht and when the suspect refused, he reportedly attacked Tiang and destroyed some of his belongings, prompting the fatal assault.

The victim’s brother-in-law, Mr. Prasert, confirmed that he had exhibited violent and unpredictable behaviour for years, forcing family members to live apart. Police Chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Songpol Boribanprasith noted that the suspect was apprehended within 1.5 hours of the incident, during which three methamphetamine tablets were also discovered. Authorities are pursuing further investigations into the suspect’s involvement in drug networks. The suspect will face charges for murder and the case is ongoing for further charges.

Good approach to the problem. Take your meds or get seal clubbed.

What meds? There's no mention of the victim being "off his meds", but it does say they found yabaa on the accused. You know, the drunk guy who killed someone.

They self medicate with street drugs. I worked with a bipolar guy who used cocaine when depressed. He was difficult to work with and should have been on lithium but he said that prescription meds were more destructive to the body than street drugs. Turned out that he was right.

Was this in Kalasin?

It's ok, I understand.
