A 72-year-old motorcycle taxi driver was found dead in a river in Chaiyaphum province on the morning of 18 October 2025. The victim’s head was covered with a green sack and he had suffered a fatal blow to the back of the head, along with two additional injuries from a blunt object. Authorities have launched an urgent investigation to locate the perpetrator.

The victim, identified as Mr. Prasert, was a resident of Nong Phai subdistrict, Chum Phae district, Khon Kaen province. He worked at the Chum Phae bus terminal, operating a motorcycle taxi service under the registration number 17. Relatives reported uncertainty over whether he had been hired to travel to Chaiyaphum before his death, as he did not inform them of his plans.

Police from Nong Bua Daeng district, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Withun Phaplongam and Pol. Col. Kosin Saadwong, inspected the scene between Ban Naka Nahak and Ban Duea in Moo 1, Kood Chum Saeng subdistrict. They collected evidence, including a white vest bearing the text “รถรับจ้าง บ.ข.ส.ชุมแพ เลข 17,” and requested forensic analysis of fingerprints and crime scene traces. Surveillance footage from Chum Phae bus terminal and connecting routes is also being reviewed.

Authorities have not ruled out any motives, considering robbery or personal disputes as possible causes. Police emphasised that all leads are being followed to ensure a swift resolution to the case. Investigators are coordinating across provinces to trace the victim’s movements prior to the murder.

A shocking murder occurred on 18 October 2025, when a Khon Kaen motorcycle taxi driver, Mr. Prasert, 72, was killed and his body dumped in a canal in Kud Chum Saeng Subdistrict, Nong Bua Daeng District, Chaiyaphum Province. The suspect, later identified as Mr. Nirun, 59, reportedly used a rock to strike the victim and covered his head with a green sack, leaving multiple blunt and sharp-force injuries.

Police from Chaiyaphum Province, led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Sujarit Panlek, quickly responded after the body was discovered on the Ban Na Kan Hak–Ban Duea bridge, Village 1. CCTV footage at the Chum Phae bus station captured the suspect near the victim before the fatal journey.

Investigators traced the suspect to a bronze-gold Toyota pickup truck, registered in Khon Kaen and belonging to the victim, on the Nong Bua Daeng–Kaset Somboon road. Mr. Nirun confessed to taking methamphetamine before hiring Mr. Prasert for a 650-baht trip to Chaiyaphum, in the pickup. During the ride, a verbal dispute escalated, leading to the violent attack and the body was dumped in water to conceal the crime.

Authorities continue to investigate whether Mr. Nirun acted alone, as the victim’s larger physique raises questions. Forensic evidence, including bloodied shoes and latent fingerprints, is being examined. Mr. Nirun faces charges of murder, concealing a corpse and nighttime theft of the victim’s vehicle.
