Stoned Chon Buri Shopkeeper Arrested After Knife Rampage

A grocery shop owner in Chon Buri was arrested after allegedly using cannabis and threatening residents with a knife while wearing a belt of ammunition. The incident occurred around 21:00 on October 16, in Soi Thung Klon Tal Man 14, Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung District. Residents called authorities in panic after the man’s aggressive and erratic behaviour escalated.

When police and local security volunteers arrived, they found the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Ekraj Saipong, known locally as “Hack,” shouting incoherently and acting violently outside his home. Witnesses said he had been “wandering around with a knife, yelling and scaring everyone” for several days. His actions had caused growing fear in the community, with many locals avoiding the area.

Upon seeing officers, Hack reportedly fled into his bedroom, barricading himself inside and shouting, “What did I do wrong?!” After 30 minutes of failed negotiations, police broke in and subdued him safely. No injuries were reported during the operation.

A search of the property uncovered a cache of weapons and drugs, including a one-metre-long knife, 25 rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition, a bullet bandolier, cannabis and various smoking tools. All items were seized as evidence before Hack was taken to Nong Prue Police Station for questioning.

One resident told reporters, “He’d parade around like a soldier, wearing the ammo belt and holding the knife. People stopped going near his shop. He was completely out of control.” Locals expressed relief following his arrest, saying it had restored calm to the neighbourhood after weeks of fear.

During interrogation, Hack reportedly showed little remorse and claimed he was destined to become a kamnan (village headman), explaining that “his actions were part of proving his leadership.” Police said his statements reflected a delusional mental state likely influenced by drug use. Officers are now preparing charges related to drug possession, possession of illegal weapons and public intimidation.

Authorities said further psychological evaluation may be needed to determine Hack’s mental condition before prosecution proceeds. The community hopes his detention will bring lasting peace and safety back to the area.

Days and weeks of wandering around scaring everyone before someone decides enough is enough.

Sometimes, Thai people can be the most tolerant folk on earth.

Agree with VR333.  Or was it reported and it took weeks for BIB to have a free moment.

So what. Are you saying it's the dope? If so why aren't all dope smokers running around with ammo belts, knives etc totally out of control. Like I said the guys a nutter. The energy drink bottles seen in the image may very well have been filled with ya dong which is common practice. A nutter that smokes dope and drinks ya dong (a lao khao based drink). Stoned, drunk on ya dong and crazy would possibly be a better description.

More likely he already has a mental illness and is prone to violence, and possibly on something else besides weed, which usually has a calming effect.

No it's adequate, there is plenty more in Pattaya and Phuket since dope shops started selling uncontrolled THC gunga

Meth and Thai whiskey plus high THC level bud, good for the nutters that come here to smoke the rubbish, and good advertising for tourists

Weed doesn't cause the damage meth or alcohol does, especially the crap many drink here, which leads to cancer and aggressive behavior. Weed alone doesn't do this.

And everyone I know that smoked or smokes, is still alive and has families, jobs, houses and a decent life. I know people who have smoked daily for decades and are still productive. You make the choices , and if you have a mental issue, you shouldn't use anything that changes moods, including alcohol. We all smoked very strong weed back in the day, although it cost more than the regular strong stuff does today. Propaganda is still out there and many, most who have never used weed, have strong opinions about something they know very little about.

Now this is where you show your ignorance..."in very strong THC levels it will flip people out." You say will which just isn't the case. Can flip some people out would be correct just as drinking too much alcohol can flip some people out.

Cue the 'reefer madness' crowd, stat!  The classic, established behavior of a casual cannabis user is a violent, axe-wielding rampage and not, you know, being really into silly comedy shows and ordering pizza.

The actual research? It's pretty clear: unlike alcohol, which often causes aggression, cannabis is not generally associated with violence in the general population. Any association found is typically correlational, not causal, and is often tied to pre-existing mental health issues or polysubstance use, making the pot a convenient scapegoat for a larger, more complex problem.

So, let’s blame the plant for the mental illness. Logical!

Kudos, Disdale... I appreciate your use of actual logic and reasoning in your many comments.   Yes, there is a massive difference between 'WILL' and 'CAN'.

A knife weilding guy named 'Hack' hits the bong and goes on a rampage.  Maybe the Israelis tampered with his weed.

Spielberg should do a remake of Reefer Madness and set it in Pattaya.

Struggling to grasp why the Israelis need to be brought up in this matter!

I've tried many varieties but not so much the last  decade and not here, as I'm staying away from it here. Black, Acapulco Gold, Columbian Gold, Hawaiian, Thai Stick, and many others and they all did the same thing. made me relaxed and laugh with friends.

Normal has nothing to do with wanting to get a buzz. How many people drink wine, whiskey and beer? Are they all alcoholics? I'm hardly a dope head getting a buzz every now and then, as my lifestyle has me stay away from it most of the time. I've known hundreds who get high and are still doing fine. Friends, friends of friends, family etc. There are quite a few "idiots" that never smoke weed but harm people daily. There are also many who are meth heads and are unpredictable, which I'm not referring to here, as well as the Heroin users who are hurting themselves. I'm more worried about the filth of society that are rich that take advantage of others through money, corruption, bribes and human trafficking.

Because they've been in the headlines a lot lately and they're the traditional donkey to pin any tail on.

You are making that up!

Most dope heads come out of the woodwork when there is a report like this, deflecting to mentioning alcohol, or telling us how wonderful this stuff is and how it has the opposite effect  on people. Yet the stories come out and the world seems to deteriorate with more drugs being available.

Why are you reluctant to do it here?

Playing it safe in a country not my own, where any excuse can be used to cause you trouble. I'm not hard up for it and will enjoy it when I return home.
