Phillips Smart TV

Featured Replies

I note that Powerbuy is advertising a Phillips 43in smart TV at a substancial discount. In Europe Phillips is a well respected and reliable brand. However this TV is made in Thailand and I have no experience of the brand in Thailand. Has any member used Phillips products and can recommend them?

The TV sold in Europe is most likely made in the same factory as the Thai one, so why worry.

Even if the EU version is produced in another factory, the quality control in each factory is by Phillips.

Philips sold its television business to TPV Technology, initially through a joint venture named TP Vision in 2012, and then sold its remaining stake to TPV in 2014. Philips now licenses the brand to TP Vision for use on TVs.

Initial sale (2012):

Philips transferred its TV business, including employees and manufacturing, to TP Vision, a joint venture where TPV Technology held a 70% stake and Philips held 30%. Philips continued to receive royalties from the business.

Full transfer (2014):

Philips later sold its remaining 30% interest to TPV Technology, making TP Vision a wholly-owned subsidiary of TPV.

What you buying is just a brand name I suspect if you saw a TV for sale under the TP vision brand you wouldn't consider it

But the op seems to focused on the Philips TV brand don't understand why as it appears TPV pay Philips for the use of the name

AI Overview

Philips TV reliability is a mixed bag; some users find them to be durable, while many others report frequent issues with software, connectivity, and picture quality, especially in smart TV models. While Philips has a history in electronics, modern reviews often point to a decline in quality, with many users experiencing problems shortly after the warranty period. Reliability seems to vary significantly by model, and some user experiences suggest they may be less reliable than other brands, particularly regarding smart features.

Depends how you formulated your question, to get the answer you wanted, as I'm sure I can get a similar answer for about every brand I can think about.

Phillips is now manufactured under the TP Vision brand, with factories in the Netherlands

Powerbuy is showing 2 Philips 43" TV's

TV 6500 series Google TV 43 inch FHD LED model 43PFT6509/67 year 2024 B7,590

Lazada has same TV in stock for B6,580

TV 6600 series Smart TV 43 inch HD QLED model 43PQT6600/67 year 2025 B7,690

This seems to be exclusive sold to powerbuy only

Phillips is now manufactured under the TP Vision brand, with factories in the Netherlands

TPV Technology, the parent company, is a global electronics manufacturer with factories in several countries, including China, Taiwan, Poland, and Russia. Therefore, where a specific TPV "Vision" TV is made depends on the market it is intended for

Manufacturing Locations:

For the European market, some Philips TVs are manufactured in Poland.

And that doesn't change the fact

Philips sold its television business to TPV Technology, initially through a joint venture named TP Vision in 2012, and then sold its remaining stake to TPV in 2014. Philips now licenses the brand to TP Vision for use on TVs.

And that doesn't change the fact that Phillips TV's are still made using Phillips technology.

But OK you win, s you want in every topic, be it electronics, EV's, or whatever

Better I ignore your superiority from now. Bye

if i search using this phrase "Phillips is now manufactured under the TP Vision brand, with factories in the Netherlands"

AI Overview

Philips-branded televisions are developed and manufactured by TP Vision, but

their factories are not located in the Netherlands. The Dutch multinational Philips licensed its TV business to TP Vision, a subsidiary of the Hong Kong-based company TPV Technology, starting in 2012. Philips itself has shifted its focus to health technology

European factories One of TP Vision's major manufacturing plants is located in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland, not the Netherlands. This factory is one of the largest and most advanced in Europe and produces a wide range of TVs, from standard models to high-end OLEDs.

Brand licensing model The current arrangement is a brand licensing model. TP Vision combines the Philips TV heritage and design expertise with TPV Technology's manufacturing scale and operational speed

How much? I don't see any substantial discount. Seems pricey for a 43" Full HD TV, when you can get a 4k resolution TV for much the same.

It seems that you have to choose from Android/Google TV and a normal screen or a more obscure OS but with a QLED screen for when it comes to 43".

My experience with discounted goods in Thailand is there's something wrong with it, a known fault so they want to get rid, only exception to that is TCL which seems to be subsidised

Not to mention 3 year warranty on TCL.

Quite a few people with those tonky-tonk XXL smart TV brands sold all over, have sometimes, ended up with issues.

Phillips is on the other hand well established, solid and apparently the quality control in Thailand is still up to the standard and reputation.

Because it is not always the case for a few other major foreign brands that are plainly crap, sold at over rated prices and marketing.

After, at your own risk....

Previous TVs have been Samsung but last time we looked at a new one, we bought an Aconatic Smart TV. MUCH cheaper than the equivalent Samsung at the time and after some years of use it's fine, certainly on a par with Samsung for our usage. We have a satellite system, wi-fi Netflix and Prime Video streaming and our CCTV system as the various inputs. If I want a new TV in the future, Aconatic and other lesser-known brands will certainly be considered.
