Absolutely, and a very important additional point made.

  • No.  When a passport is cancelled any valid visas, reentry permits etc remain valid. No.  In any event not really necessary. Just update pp # when renewal.  Same for change of ad

He can provide new pp # when he next renews licence.

So what is the point of having PP number on licence. It could be up to six years before he needs to renew it.

My old PP no. is shown on my licence. Would it cause any problems if I got stopped, asked for my DL & PP details?

My current TDL has 5 years remaining and my old pp #.

Obviously I renewed my passport not long ago.

In my "man bag" I have me TDL and passport.

I also have current pp photo page on my cell. As we all should.

In any event would most likely be told to update details (in reality probably nothing)

When I went to the DLT after I got my new passport to get my 5 year permanent thai license updated, the woman at the counter said not to bother until it came up for renewal. 😮

She said just carry a photo image of the old/new passports data pages on my phone in case I was ever stopped.. 🙂

Waited the 2 years that were left on the license and then renewed it so now it has the new passport number on it

Present new passport and COR to the DLT to update your DL.
Present new passport and COR to Kasikorn to update your details.

Why would you bother to update your DL? Just keep using it until it needs to be replaced anyway.

As for Kasikorn Bank, you don't need a COR to update your passport information. Just your new passport and your passbook. I'd also take along the old passport just in case.

OP posted..... "I tried to open a new account at Krungsri and was told by the banker to get a COR for them"

So apart from the stamp transfer he wants to open new bank account.

Krungsri wants a COR.

Thinking he could open one without COR at Kasikorn.

Would need address proof. eg lease etc

I never stated otherwise, just that he'd need a COR and present a new passport.
Up to the OP when he changes the details.

My 90-day period is due at the end of November.  Should I continue to renew online with the now-canceled passport number? The old passport doesn't expire until mid-March of next year.

When changing passport number you might not be able to report address online; I was rejected and needed to visit my local immigration office.

Concerning bank, it is important that you update your passport to the new number, as otherwise your ID don't fit with the ID stored in the bank's system; i.e., you cannot withdraw money in a bank-branch. Bring both old and new passpport when updating.

The same, if you have loyalty cards with your passport registered as ID, and wish to claim some benefits; for example with a Central-card.

I just received my new passport today.  Less than three weeks since I mailed it off.  I was expecting two months or more based on what it says on the embassy website.

You could leave it till you have some business with immigration.

Yes they told me this last time I went for my extension.  Next extension in April 2026.  Does the same officer who does the retirement extension also do the transferring of stamps?

At CW stamp etc transfer is done at the extension desks L32-34

Pretty sure that if you attended immigration for extension they would do the transfer then at same desk do the extension.

Be aware that if you are doing extension based on retirement they will want to see bank book updated and photocopies of pages back to last extension.

Personally, I would avoid leaving transfer till time of extension.

If you have any need to deal with immigration prior to next extension for example a 90 report etc then transfer on that visit.

Attend your bank to update new pp#

I've been doing 90 day report online for years.  I've no other need to go there.

Any particular reason or just a gut feeling that they won't be pleased?

Look, I think it would be fine either way.

It's just that (for me) retirement extension, I obtain bank letter + 12 month bank statement days prior to extension and bank update on day of application.

I would prefer the bank update my pp# on my account as soon as I obtain new pp.

The bank hopefully happy to update prior to immigration transferring required info to new pp.

I can understand a desire to get the stamps transferred sooner rather than later.

However, in my case I am seriously considering not getting them transferred. BUT.....my circumstances are a bit different:-

Jomtien Immigration office, extension expiry date 19th June

No 90 day reporting required as overseas trips that negate that.

I will let the extension lapse (because of travel dates) and return in July on a new Non-Imm 'O' off which I will extend in September for 12 months based on marriage.

NB: Also advise your phone provider of the new passport.

Well that's up to you and frankly bit off topic.

Also thinking the plan bit unusual.

You would best to obtain new Non O outside if Thailand as Jomtien run their own rules.

Even better obtain extension along with reentry permit.

What  advantage do you have by "starting over"

Apologies if sill off topic but this may be useful to others.

My issue is that I am always out of the country when my extension expires. I have previously had to use an agent to 'renew' 3 months early. That is the main reason for 'starting over' and there an added relevance (on topic) following receipt of my new passport.

I am out of the country from 10 May to 16 July so my current extension will simply expire. I will obtain a new 'O' visa before leaving the UK. I will then apply for a 12 month extension in September.

My post was about NOT getting my stamps transferred;  I can't see the necessity if I am not having any interaction with Jomtien Immigration before my travels in May. The only issue I can see is that I will pass through Immigration at Suvarnabhumi  six times with the new passport. Whilst I shall carry the old passport with my stamps in, I wonder if Immigration will get grumpy if I haven't transferred the stamps.

I guess my question is.....whilst preferable to transfer the stamps, is there a legal obligation to do so,

No problem.

The main stamp they want to see is your reentry permit. (same for airline). There should be no problem in traveling abroad and domestically with both pp even for extended period.

If questioned (won't happen) explain that you are not planning on extension renewal..
