Authorities in Phang Nga have arrested two Myanmar women accused of smuggling over 1.3 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, valued at nearly two million baht, concealed in their underwear. The arrests took place on the evening of 22 October 2025 as part of a government-led crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking.

Under the direction of Phang Nga Governor Phairat Phetchayuan, Deputy Governor Buncha Thanu-in, and other senior officials, a special operations unit known as “Erawan” was deployed. The team, led by provincial administrative officer Atchariya Pienthong and joined by local officials from Takua Pa and Thai Mueang districts, acted on intelligence suggesting an incoming drug shipment from Myanmar.

Investigators had received tip-offs linked to previous narcotics cases, indicating that methamphetamine was being transported by bus from Ranong through Kuraburi and Takua Pa, with the final destination at Lam Kaen Subdistrict in Thai Mueang District. At around 16:00 on 22 October, officers observed two suspicious women arriving at Takua Pa Bus Terminal on a Chumphon–Phuket route bus.

Upon inspection, officials discovered 12 plastic bags containing crystal meth hidden inside the women’s underwear. The suspects, identified as Ms. Sanda So, aged 40 and Ms. San The Yu, aged 41, both Myanmar nationals, were taken into custody. The confiscated drugs weighed a total of 1,395 grams and were valued at approximately 2 million baht. Two mobile phones were also seized as evidence.

The suspects and evidence were transported to Takua Pa Police Station, where the narcotics were weighed and verified at a local gold shop. Both women were charged with “joint possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine or ice) with intent to sell without authorisation” and will face prosecution under the law.
