A motorbike in retirement

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I'm talking about Pattaya here thus i have posted in the Pattaya section

Last time I was in Pattaya I stayed at various Airbnb condominiums thus using Grab a lot

My budget expenses for one month was around 3000 baht

That was going from Jomtien to Pattaya several times

And up to Elite gym on Sukhumvit etc

I often think to myself maybe I should learn to drive a motorcycle,

Do you as a older retired expat living in Pattaya find you can do without a motorcycle ,what about food shopping etc

as far as I know they don't do big  shopping deliveries in Pattaya ?

Who here is retired but doesn't have a motorcycle and no partner ,how do you rely on getting around ?

Baht bus?

I did use Grab motorbike several times but with no helmet I didn't feel safe

Can you do without a motorbike

  • Again, it's not the machine, it's the operator.     44 yrs riding MC, 25 yrs in TH, AND 19 yrs in the more dangerous USA, and nobody has hit me yet.   It's called  'defensive driving'

Why don't you walk?  When I lived in Jomtien Beach, I would walk every day over the hill to Pattaya to visit Central Shopping.

First and last time you were in Pattaya was pre COVID. You made a user here. You left Thailand,  COVID left Thailand but you continue to post nonsense daily 🙄🙄🙄

He's discussing past experience. Just yapping on.

No plans at all to return or he'd have stated something like ... I'm planning another trip to Thailand (nope!) ...last time in Pattaya ...

It's totally vapid brainrot

Lotus's. Big C, Makro, and Tops all do "big shopping" deliveries. Order online.

Just out of interest how can you be "nearly brutally attacked", I would have thought it was quite a finite thing

To be or not to be sort of thing

Knocking on 71, and I'll stop riding when I can't get on it.   No more dangerous in TH, than a car, possibly less so, as smaller, and can avoid things easier.

Like all machines and or products, they aren't dangerous, the people operating them are.

About 85% of road accidents here are caused by bikes, the thought of pensioners riding them about is pretty worrying

Involved in & cause by are a bit different.  And where did you pull that 85% out of ???

Only stat I'm familiar with, is ~75% +/-, deaths were on MC.

Perhaps dear Sir , I could kindly ask you to hand in your motorcycle licence and use a

one of those mobility scooters

Riding at your age is being selfish

Selfish, how so ???

Dog and myself need the wind on our face, and it's called ... 'FREEDOM'

No, you'll never see me an a mobility scooter, simple too slow.  Maybe a trike :coffee1:  If I can't hold up a real MC, maybe get one of these, as they'll still do a good speed.

It's mostly hand to mouth here. People eat rice at the corner. Whenever I return to visit the USA I am amazed how much food is in the house.

Did you know that mice are so fit & healthy because they eat when needed? Some store food, but only for the winter.

If I went by stats, I guess I should never get in a car either.  You people are silly and simply don't know how to enjoy yourselves.  I can't live in a bubble.

Pattaya is no place to "learn" how to drive a motorbike...  use bolt... or order online and have stuff delivered...

Yea, put your life in the hands of total strangers   :cheesy:

The same people that are the cause of those stats :coffee1:

I seriously doubt you were there, but in no position to state otherwise

If you didn't hang out on Beach road you wouldn't get attacked by ladyboys and c'mon now ... you loved it.

I'm 64 approaching 65 not 80 and in decent shape. Most bar girlies guess my age 47-55. BMI 21.5. I'm guessing you're in sad shape TBH.

Don't go away mad - just go away

I agree that it is a lot less dangerous..............probably more dangerous is any denial of the risks. To suggest that motocys are as safe/safer than cars is ludicrous.

LOL.... at 72 with 50+ years under my belt using motorcycles as my main transportation .... I've got several years left in me.

My situational awareness while driving borders on paranoia but it is necessary in urban traffic.

I don't get your thinking when you say 'Riding at your age is selfish'.
