  • Nobody over 65 should get a bike license, they are a danger to themselves and others on those killing machines

  • Knocking on 71, and I'll stop riding when I can't get on it.   No more dangerous in TH, than a car, possibly less so, as smaller, and can avoid things easier.   Like all machines and or prod

  • Again, it's not the machine, it's the operator.     44 yrs riding MC, 25 yrs in TH, AND 19 yrs in the more dangerous USA, and nobody has hit me yet.   It's called  'defensive driving'

I'm talking about Pattaya here thus i have posted in the Pattaya section

Last time I was in Pattaya I stayed at various Airbnb condominiums thus using Grab a lot

My budget expenses for one month was around 3000 baht

That was going from Jomtien to Pattaya several times

And up to Elite gym on Sukhumvit etc

I often think to myself maybe I should learn to drive a motorcycle,

Do you as a older retired expat living in Pattaya find you can do without a motorcycle ,what about food shopping etc

as far as I know they don't do big  shopping deliveries in Pattaya ?

Who here is retired but doesn't have a motorcycle and no partner ,how do you rely on getting around ?

Baht bus?

I did use Grab motorbike several times but with no helmet I didn't feel safe

Can you do without a motorbike

If it's just around Pattaya you could use an electric bicycle to the same effect. The nice thing about a motorbike/scooter is the range. Once you're comfortable it's easy to ride down to Rayong for a day at the beach or out to Maprachan (sp?) Lake for a walk or to see some new scenery.  There are really nice country roads on the darkside that are fun on a scooter and don't have too much traffic. Buddha mountain and the nearby temples are fun to visit.

This board has a lot of pearl clutchers when it comes to the subject of motorbikes. When talking about road deaths one must also include the number of people who ride motorbikes in Thailand and how many km their journeys are.

Never heard of delivery?

Walking is excellent exercise. Probably good for brain as well.

The wife will order on weekends rarely. I've never ordered a meal online in my life. Seem to be doing fine.

Pearl clutchers lol...Or people who've lived here decades.

Playing odds . I'm guessing you're a smoker and often ride raw as well. The number of people that die in automobile accidents annually in Thailand sets world records. Pearl clutching ...

An interesting fallacy.  I've ridden here for two decades and seen a few deaths, two of which were on Third Road in the last year.

How many people ride motorbikes and how many million kms per year are ridden on these roads?  It can't be compared to Western countries, that's for sure.

We're all playing odds here.  I've ridden 1300 km in the last 3 days. Perhaps tomorrow will be the final day. What a ride it's been!

I take your point but I was specifically thinking about a load of weekly/monthly shopping.

Thailand wins 1st place for road fatalities in Asia.

6th in the world currently.

The threshold is called "competence".

The hard part is realising when you can no longer achieve that competence.

i meant age threshold when you shouldnt try to learn to ride bike,

you would have been forgiven to think he had never bicycle even,

i got frustrated when his nerve stopped the trip for DL, but maybe he just knew better deep inside

Absolutely.

I bought a Hilux.

Lotus's. Big C, Makro, and Tops all do "big shopping" deliveries. Order online.

.They discontinued deliveries to the Pratunnak area a month or so ago.

That is odd. I can get shopping deliveries from Tops (Central Festival Pattaya Beach Mall) all the way out to Bang Saray.

How about a minimum age too! Or a maximum weight , especially those with a bald head and silly little pony tail on the back of their neck!

Perhaps, given the air of geriatric fragility and vulnerability you rather exude, one of those electric tricycles that grannies use would be appropiate?

Beautiful words

Exude ?

Must add that one

Could it be used in this sentence..."he exuded a fart "

There used to be a member who posted on the motorbike forum.

Very experienced rider. Not with us any more.

RIP Kwasaki.

I don't use a moped here because I'm driving with thai's, not because of my riding ability. It's who you are around that makes it dangerous.

Yes, you could have a truckload of shopping delivered if you wanted, but on a 3,000 baht expense budget, you wouldn't be getting a big delivery of anything apart from maybe bottled water.

You could stay at home and have anything you want delivered—no need to go anywhere.

I did have an debate with him about age and riding motorbikes in their elderly days. Well a least he died with his boots on. Respect

You don't see many mopeds around these days. Most have automatic scooters well over 100cc.

100 to 125 is not really that big. The 155s are noticeably more powerful but they are also bulkier so not an advantage in Pattaya and triple the price. I would be looking at a 110i Click in Pattaya, or Bangkok for that matter. Maneuverability is more useful than speed.

Slackers.

How embarrassing for them to sink to 6th place.

My Click 160 maneuvers perfectly in Pattaya

You might think so, but it's like a boat compared to my Yamaha Mio. There no comparison in heavy traffic.
