Just one tale from my endless Bangkok Bank saga.

Have a new passport since September.

Young clerk, one hour, endless papers, signatures.

Books cancelled reissued. What the heck.

Then time was due for a new debit/card about two weeks ago.

Fine, works at ATM.

In a post here recently read that is default disabled for online use.

Not so fine. Ok, change it. Requires the infamous face recognition.

It failed, once, twice... BUT not with a usual message that says: didn't recognize, try again or so.

Isn't it crystal clear that the face recognition is "broken"?

Not to Bangkok Bank desk clerks.

Told her x-times. Showed x times. She read the Thai version (same content).

About my ATM card: need new one!??? 100 Baht.

And tomorrow everything will work.

To save my nerves I won't visit that branch again.

As the message says "any branch". Will try my luck in Pattaya.

For the fixed deposit account I eased things:

 

Transferred 1.4 mil to Kasikorn.

Only good remark about BBL: their web banking still feels good. 500k transfer per day with a single OTP.

Indeed, that is also the major saving grace for BBL in my eyes. But for how much longer is, I think, the $64,000 question. They've already stopped internet banking for new applicants since last July, so how long will it be before they ram their lousy app down the throats of all their account holders?

 

I don't know whether you have internet banking with your Kasikorn account, but, unfortunately, they've also now stopped this for new applicants, as I found out when I opened an account with them last week. But at least I can get their K+ app to work on my smartphone after a fashion, in stark contrast to BBL's memory-guzzling counterpart which merely displays a blank screen. And success in setting up and activating the K+ app is not dependent on your having to master the facial scan nonsense, as BBL insist on in the case of their cumbersome app.
