Thailand is set for a significant increase in American tourists by 2026, as stated by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The country anticipates welcoming approximately 1.2 million visitors from the United States, marking an 8% rise compared to this year. This boost is attributed to new flight routes, including United Airlines' renewed service to Bangkok after an 11-year hiatus.

In recent years, Thailand has seen a surge in American tourists, with last year's figures reaching a record 1.03 million, generating 58.8 billion baht. This year, the number is expected to reach 1.1 million visitors, contributing over 62 billion baht to Thailand’s economy. The trend is partly driven by popular cultural references, like Thailand's feature in season three of "The White Lotus."

The UA820 service, operated by United Airlines, connects Bangkok to Los Angeles via Hong Kong using Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This service marks the airline's return to Bangkok, initially launching on October 26. Marcel Fuchs, United Airlines' Managing Director of Sales, noted a robust demand for travel to Asia-Pacific, emphasizing that United offers more routes to this region than any other US carrier.

Fuchs highlighted that the Bangkok route attracts a diverse group of travelers, with about 70% originating in the US and 30% boarding in Hong Kong. The demand is high for premium and business-class seats, catering to leisure, business, and family travelers embarking on the 18 to 19-hour journey. Additionally, connections from San Francisco via Hong Kong further expand access for American tourists.

Other airlines are also exploring the US-Thailand route. Alaska Airlines is considering direct flights, while EVA Air has added Dallas to its schedule. Norse Atlantic has launched new winter routes to Thailand from the UK, Sweden, and Norway, indicating growing interest from multiple airlines in this corridor.

Key Takeaways

  • Thailand expects 1.2 million US tourists by 2026, an 8% increase.
  • United Airlines resumed Bangkok routes after 11 years, boosting tourism.
  • Diverse traveler demand noted, with 70% of passengers from the US.

So those 8% of 'extra U.S. tourists' are only waiting for a particular airline's new routes in order to travel to Thailand? 😆

I would never take United on a long haul, they are crap domestically. So many better options out there, the new route changes nothing. The baht needs to weaken a bit, and they should do advertising, it isn't on alot of people's radar to visit.

Why, do they know something we don’t? Not everyone is sat tight waiting to scramble to Thailand because they can. You gotta start offering something more, like realistic exchange rates, realistic flight prices and things to tempt folks away from going to burgeoning neighbouring countries like appropriately priced accommodating and libations.
