Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngamphichet led a key policy meeting on October 28 to address the city's ongoing infrastructure issues, enforce building regulations, and expedite urban cleanups. The meeting focused on current challenges, including disputes over relocation and unauthorized public land usage, aiming to streamline municipal projects and maintain order in the city.

Significant attention was directed toward Soi Phothisan 6 to 8, where a lone homeowner remains in dispute over a relocation order, citing a city-issued registration over 30 years old. This case has been escalated to district-level mediation. On Soi Aow Leaw Sien, following a court evacuation order, demolition of structures on public land is set to begin today, with collaboration from Bang Lamung district officials.

The Engineering Department reported ongoing compliance issues with business signs exceeding legal limits. On Pattaya Central Road, 24 non-compliant signs were identified, with two already corrected. Walking Street saw a reduction in violations through a recent enforcement drive, but 15 non-compliant signs remained as of October 22. Businesses are required to rectify these by November 3.

Concerns regarding the National Sports Centre Eastern Region indicated delays due to pending roof cost approvals. Construction will continue after pricing confirmation. On Jomtien Soi 3, misuse of private plots as public spaces, coupled with drug activity and encroachment, prompted officials to enforce the Building Control Act to enhance safety and maintain Pattaya’s reputation.

Deputy Mayor Wutthisak Rermkijakarn will oversee repairs to sidewalks on Thepprasit Road, introducing stricter parking controls to prevent damage. Mayor Poramet emphasized monthly progress reports and coordination for city event promotion, balancing local economic support with the national mourning period.

Key Takeaways

  • Mayor Ngamphichet prioritizes infrastructure and code enforcement.
  • Compliance improvements are required for business sign regulations.
  • Demolition and safety measures are underway for public land misuse.

Wasn't the original contractor ALREADY PAID to put on a roof??

Build it once, but bill it twice.

Another 330 million baht, + the 714 million already spent, + whatever is now going to go to a second roof.

In a bid to inject life into the languishing project, the municipal government initiated a rigorous bidding process. Green Thumb Company Limited, a renowned builder of national-level sports facilities, emerged victorious. The torchbearer’s mission: oversee the project with a budget of 329,800,000 baht for its pivotal third phase.

This phase entails a sweeping transformation of the complex, encompassing seating areas, structures, equipment, and sports fields. The new contractor commits to an unforgiving 820-day timeline, stretching from September 25, 2023, to November 27, 2025. Straying from this path invites daily penalties totalling 3 million baht.

Is there any money left after the new Walking Street sign?  What a waste!

Waste of time people...

I think they should put up more crosswalk signs where there isn't a crosswalk, and a lot more "No Right-Hand U-Turn" signs.

This keeps me awake at night - when the traffic lights stop working, there is never a traffic-jam and the streets appear virtually empty of vehicles.  I can't decide if it's correlation or causation. :coffee1:

That's it?  Pathetic!   I didn't see any infrastructure 'targeted'.  And, no, getting rid of a few large building signs is not improving infrastructure and does nothing to help traffic congestion.  Pity there's nobody at City Hall with any vision or any will to actually make improvements.      Meanwhile, perfectly good sections of sidewalk on Pattaya Second Road are being torn up and replaced--total waste of money.  In other sections of Pattaya Second Road, new sidewalk is also being installed but much of it is useless as it is being put down in areas that had sidewalks that were way too narrow for a person to walk on in the first place--no expansion of the sidewalk width was done--so more money uselessly spent.

Hey at least Pattaya is puyblishing what happens at meetings.

Walking Street signs is easy.  5 am have crewes go along the street and take down any signs that are in viaolation and leve a bill for the owner or manager to look after LOL/

Any word on teh big eye sore or buoiling monument on the waterfront

And what about noise pollution? I live next to some temple that uses tones of fire crackers all day long as homage to

some deity where hordes of Chinees tourists are paying for those endless loud fire crackers to go on all day and every day,

But I know, it's wishful thinking, This is Pattaya.

Undoubtedly this will be short lived, but at least he is able to identify some of the problems and is at least trying.

Whoever designed Thepprasit rd needs to have his brain checked out. And then kicked out from any planning committee. It’s stupid and dangerous.

The whole area , including Thappraya should be fixed with traffic police  present. The broken pavements and lack of crossings is inadmissible.
Rant over.

Will the mayor be targetting the DPP ? The Dreaded Pattaya Pavers. Many Pattaya footpaths are like obstacle courses.
