Doesn't make sense.

The jews were allowed in provided they paid their head tax and accepted their 2nd class status. Jews had few rights  in muslim countries. Save the revisionist version of their exploitation. According to the muslim propaganda all was well when muslims ruled the jews. It was not. They were forbidden from multiple occupations and they had little recourse when in a dispute with a muslim. They were kept in confined areas, which today we call ghettos.

In reference to Turkey, either you are badly mistaken or wores. Please provide evidence that Jews were confined to ghettos. There were mild restrictions imposed on where they could live. But nothing like the situation in Europe. AI does a nice summary of it.

No, Jews were not confined to ghettos in the Ottoman Empire in the same way they were in many parts of Christian Europe. Unlike the mandatory, closed ghettos with strict curfews prevalent in cities like Venice, the Ottoman Empire did not have a system of forced residential segregation for Jews.
Instead, the Ottoman Empire implemented the millet system, which organized non-Muslim communities as largely autonomous groups based on their religion. This system offered Jews:
  • Administrative autonomy: Jewish communities had their own legal courts (Halakhic courts), schools, and social services, and were represented by the Hakham Bashi (Chief Rabbi) to the Ottoman authorities.
  • Freedom of residence: While Jews often chose to live in specific neighborhoods or quarters of cities (like Istanbul, Salonica, and Izmir) for social, religious, and community support reasons, they were generally not legally restricted from living elsewhere. These areas were not walled off or locked at night like European ghettos.
  • Economic opportunities: Jews in the Ottoman Empire faced fewer professional restrictions compared to Western Christian countries and were active in trade, finance, medicine, and printing, with some reaching high positions in the Ottoman court and administration.
While Jews, as dhimmis (protected non-Muslim subjects), were considered second-class citizens and subject to certain restrictions (such as paying a special poll tax, wearing distinctive clothing in some periods, and restrictions on building places of worship), the overall environment was one of relative tolerance and safety compared to the widespread persecution, expulsions, and forced ghettoization in many parts of Europe. Indeed, the Ottoman Empire became a safe haven for tens of thousands of Jewish refugees fleeing the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisitions and other European persecutions.

What's next describing Dachau as a holiday camp?

Yes, there were times when some Jews were tolerated in the Ottoman Empire over the centuries. There was an underlying motive to  attract the population because some were educated and others had wealth. The Ottoman empire sought to exploit these people. The tolerance reflected the ebbs and flows of the Ottomans Empire and the fact that they were of use to the Empire when put to work.

Please do not deny the reality that the Jews were classified as dhimmi and had to pay a special tax. They were also required to wear

special clothing. They were not allowed to have firearms, or to ride on horses.  Jews were restricted in the building of their houses of worship. Just as the muslims seized and desecrated Christian Churches, they did the same to the jewish Temples. Celebration of their religion was not allowed in the presence of muslims and was restricted only to secluded places where they could not be seen.  Offences against muslims were punishable by death and the Jews had an additional burden of proof  when they had a dispute with a muslim.  Yes, it was better treatment than in much of Europe, but hardly a life of  true freedom.

I expect that you consider Iban Farouk a humanitarian too.

In any case, this topic is about the persecution of Nigeria's Christians which you do not seem to consider worth caring about.

This is so dangerous. Imagine US troops entering a village in Nigeria.

"Sir, everyone is black, sir. How do we know who to shoot?"

"Son, you're American. Shoot 'em all and let God sort them out."

In any case, this topic is about the persecution of Nigeria's Christians which you do not seem to consider worth caring about.

It was the 17th century for Christ's sake. (Or is that for Muhammed's sake?) No such thing as civil liberties back then.. There were no ghettos as you claimed. Jews were free to come and go. As were Christians. The Jews fled persecution in Europe.  And under Ottoman rule, Christianity thrived in Eastern Europe. Apart from ethnic Albanians, not a lot of Muslims there. How do you reconcile that with persecution?

Interesting how you repeatedly ignore the fact that Muslims are also the target of these militias. What perverted notion of the US Constitution underlines your belief that Christians are entitled to special concern?

And just because I don't support military action, that means I don't care? Your belief is exactly the kind of dangerous nonsense that precipitated the Iraq war. Were you one of those who cared enough about the fate of Iraqis to support that war?

A map showing the extent of Islamist terrorism in this region. It shows it is wider than just Nigeria, and that groups such as Boko Haram operate accross borders.

A relevant information is that the French army, which was fighting against Islamic terrorists in this region, has been expelled from neighbouring countries such as Niger, Chad, or Mali. The US army has also been thrown out of Niger.

So what would Trump be able to do under such circumstances?

Bomb them? The French tried that, but it's nearly hopeless in the Sahel as terrorists are spread thin and can easily find places to hide. They may also hide among "normal" population in villages they rule by force, so collateral damage would be huge.

Boots on the ground against them? Armies more experienced in fighting guerilla, such as the French legion or the Chad army also failed (and they were also helped by the US). How would the US army do better?

For posters who are supporting Trump on this matter: practically, what do you think he should do? 🙂
