A 52-year-old man with a mental health condition was killed by a wild elephant in a rubber plantation in Khlong Takrao Subdistrict, Tha Takiap District, Chachoengsao Province early on 2 November 2025. The victim, identified as Mr. Therddech was found unconscious and covered in blood at around 03:00 local time and later died despite being rushed to hospital.

According to local officials, villagers alerted Mr. Tanongsak Phanikhon, the village headman, after discovering the injured man. Rescue teams, including volunteers, forest officers and military rangers from Unit 1306, responded to the scene and confirmed signs of a wild elephant attack, including traces suggesting the victim had been dragged and struck against rubber trees.

The incident highlights ongoing human-wildlife conflicts in the area. The victim came from a low-income family, who have no means to afford funeral expenses. Khlong Takrao Subdistrict Headman Mr. Saroj Laisuwan personally donated cash to assist the family with the funeral arrangements and coordinated with local authorities to submit documentation to the head of Kaeng Aranyik Wildlife Sanctuary for official support under government regulations for residents harmed by wild elephants.

Authorities continue to monitor the area for elephant activity to prevent further incidents. The case underscores the need for increased awareness and preventive measures in regions where human settlements and wildlife habitats overlap. Local officials and wildlife officers are expected to review safety protocols and provide guidance for residents living near elephant corridors.
