I backpacked through Iran long ago.  I will always remember that almost every restaurant  and place of biz had two photos on the wall.  One was the shah of iran.  The other?  Muhammad ALI.

Hippie trail adventures! They had good hash and O, too...

So the obvious question, " are you going to DOB him in"?

For those that gave a negative response to my comment. It was a normal question and aside from that my question was not inferring that he should DOB his neighbours in.  BUT  geez he knows  a lot about them. Maybe this guy is  one of those nosy person's. Any way, who gives a sh..t

Perhaps when the time is right his "teelak" will do the honors...😁

Maybe she loves him and they have a happy life together.  The locals will respect the fact that he gets out there and works in the field.  I can't imagine wanting to destroy people's happiness over dogma and envy.

Most of the people on this board have probably never met an Iranian.  They're lovely people.

I have. I can't say I care for them. Apart from looking rather disturbing with their giant eyebrows and excessive body hair I've found them rather unstable.

One friend who's now in the US, his mother is Iranian, has a blog, where writes the most insane drivel, literally makes you think he needs medical attention.

Yes they did.

Seemed I had stepped back in time a few centuries and half the country was living in mud huts while the shah and his buddies were doing very very welll selling off the oil.  And then came the Ayatollah.

As they say "If you are going to do it, do it big".

Haha, key takeaways now end of the stories for the 'hard of thinking'.

Interesting they respected Mohammed Ali so much. Thailand used to have a lot of pics everywhere just like that, of course one of The King, and another of  gruesome Thaksin!

I would get too stressed out if I was on overstay .

Knowing that everyday could be your last and you could be back home next week with a 10 year ban from Thailand . Constantly waiting for that knock on the door , way too stressful .

You won't be home next week. First some uncertain time rotting in the immigration detention centre. For some poor souls that has been years.

These Iranians on overstay may possibly be wanted men back in Iran, 'enemies of the state'. If sent back maybe prison or worse. Trying to claim asylum in Thailand rarely works.

Hence Europe would have been better option.

Depends what their crime was, for some categories I  see no reason why Thailand should harbour them.

So the 90 day reporting system doesn't work?

Obviously not, I wonder why they still keep it alive?

Thailand prides itself on 98% employment but I wonder how many actually work? A tour of most Immigration offices; banks; any superstore; will reveal lots of employees who have no justification for their wage.  This results in over-fussy working practices & deliberate obfuscation to justify the bloated payroll.  Any job that does require hard graft for a full day's work is farmed out to (illegal) foreign workers.
