Have I outgrown the joy of ordinary happiness?

Featured Replies

Every morning I wake up well rested and clear-headed. I move through the day without pressure, without debt, without anyone’s approval hanging over me. I don’t need to work, yet I stay busy and physically active because maintaining a routine and sone functional strength feels better than just lying around. Social life is fine, my body lean and hard, and my mind stays calm.

I’m not chasing anything anymore. I feel like I’ve already caught it all. But lately I wonder if that’s the real problem. When everything is effortless, does life start to look like a game I already finished? Or is this just what happens when you stop pretending you’re a race car driver speeding around the track trying to win?

Lately I’ve also noticed how much energy other people spend stressing out. They’re always tired, frustrated, pissed off, burned out, or chasing something new. I don’t get it. I just don’t seem to struggle with everyday life the way most people do. Nothing really bothers me anymore. Why do some people seem to treat peace of mind like it’s a threat?

Try to help other people who aren't as fortunate as you. Share some of your fortune. That will bring some purpose and joy into your meaningless existence.

There is no such thing as a 100% stress-free existence. Now, having no stress is stressing you out. To remain healthy (physically and mentally), stress is very important. It provides the catalyst to improve and strengthen your mind and body.  Stress is natural, stress is normal, stress is good.

Because core teaching in the West is to be to be permanently dissatisfied and discontent.......never at peace with oneself or the world.

The people you identify have not the self awareness or knowledge to see what they are and what has made them that way.

For the moment Thailand remains a good place to detox for those who do.

Existential boredom......not your run of the mill boredom that might be overcome with a new hobby, expanding your social circle, travelling..........you are looking at the end of life as you knew it.

With respect, you haven't really got peace of mind if you're posting on an expat forum worrying about other people.

And your peace of mind is contingent on external factors as well as internal and may only be temporary. As Joni Mitchell said so eloquently ""Sometimes change comes at you like a broadside accident, there is chaos to the order, random things you can't prevent."

As you get older it's the beginning of survival.

HAPPINESS.

Have you got friends and family close by to interact with?

Have you got a hobby and toys (cars, motorbikes etc.) to enjoy your days.

Are you eating well, lots here have a poor diet

Happiness is something that is most easily recognizable in retrospect.

Have a bad accident, contract a serious disease, lose a loved one ... then you can look back and realize just how happy you once were.

This thread got me thinking. Must confess, in the past I always associated "happyness" with the charms of women. I am amazed that most of my thinking and my actions were centered around "pleasing women". The more the better.

Now, as an old geezer, with my testosterone level nearing "level zero", the main driving force in my past life (women) plays no more role in my todays life. In some sort of way, I feel "liberated", a "vice" that has departed from my life.

Enabeling me to see the thousand wonders that every new day brings. New forms of "happyness", not paying attention to them before.

In short, you don't get horny anymore ?
