A five-year-old boy has died after being electrocuted on outdoor playground equipment at a kindergarten in Buriram province. The tragic incident occurred on 4 November at a school in Non Suwan district. Relatives claim the school had been warned multiple times about an electrical fault but failed to carry out repairs.

Reporters visiting the family home in Ban Fai Yai village, Thung Changhan subdistrict, found the child’s body being prepared for funeral rites. The family then accompanied reporters to the school playground, where the fatal incident took place. The area is next to an old lighting post with two exposed circuit breakers, both missing protective covers and showing signs of deterioration.

The boy’s grandfather, Kamphan Sisarat, 60, said he cared for the child while the parents worked in another province. He described the incident as unbearable, saying the boy was simply playing in an area designated by the school. “He wasn’t being mischievous. He was just playing where he was allowed, and this happened,” he said tearfully.

The child’s aunt, Thassaninee Chutinthararuk, 44, said she rushed to the school after receiving the news and found her nephew lying motionless on a swing. She said staff had already attempted CPR before taking him to Non Suwan Hospital, but the boy had no pulse. The family later learned that the electric current leakage was from a nearby lighting pole.

According to the aunt, previous electric shocks had occurred at the same location during a school sports event, and villagers had repeatedly notified the school. “They never fixed it. Now my nephew had to be the one to pay the price. He had only been back at school for two days,” she said. The family also alleged that teachers initially asked them not to publicise the case to avoid damaging the school’s reputation.

The school director expressed sorrow over the child’s death and stated that the school was providing compensation through its pupil accident insurance. When asked about earlier complaints regarding electrical leaks, the director said no such reports had ever been received.

Didn't you read. The school director is already saying noone ever reported the problem so they had no knowledge it needed to be fixed.

I guess he does not remember the electrical shock given to a kid last year during sports day.

I hope the family sues the school and files neglect charges against the director. Trying to suppress the information to prevent damage to the schools image. I would say it is too late for that.

Time for all responsible to be marched out and forced to play on the equipment.  Record and post to Facebook and we'll never hear a story like this again.
