In a major crackdown dubbed “Romance 114”, Thai authorities have successfully dismantled a romance scam network, arresting six individuals, including both Nigerian nationals and Thai citizens. Using fake online profiles of attractive foreign men, the group allegedly scammed victims out of over 114 million baht. The operation saw coordinated raids across Bangkok and Chonburi on 7th November 2025.

The operation, led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Chanannath Saratavalpais, targeted the intricate network believed to be orchestrated by a Nigerian mastermind. The individuals arrested include Warisra, aged 20, Chalermchai, aged 23, Phanita, aged 31, Nigerian national Emmadua Abushu or Bonzee, aged 31, Kessinee, aged 28, and Sariya, aged 40. The charges against them include fraud, money laundering, and operating a criminal organisation.

The investigation started after a victim reported falling for a fraudulent social media account. The scam involved a sophisticated hierarchy, with the Nigerian boss directing operations from abroad. Emmadua Abushu and his Thai wife, Phanita, coordinated local efforts, including recruiting partners and setting up mule accounts for fund transfers.

After deceiving the victims, they converted the funds into cash and channelled them through a complex network of accounts, ultimately reaching their Nigerian associates. Authorities uncovered the criminals' method of converting money into digital assets or cryptocurrency to obscure the trail. Assets worth over 2.5 million baht were seized, although one member, Chinene Collin, remains at large, having fled the country.

The arrested individuals have confessed and are now in police custody, with legal proceedings underway.

as long as Thailand continues to allow Nigerian and West Africans in the country freely without any background check, they deserved everything coming to them.

Just FYI Thailand does not allow Nigerians freely into their country.

The obstacles they face are tremendous just to get visas.

That’s why it will be rare to see any lady from Nigeria on the streets of Bangkok or Pattaya engaged in the oldest profession.
They are usually from East Africa or Southern Africa

Yes I went there on a number of occasions and had to deal with them commercially so I am not suggesting they are all innocent........

Corruption is why Africa in general is still in the dark ages. Because how come that despite the trillions being given in western aid, many nations are still behind ? While their leaders or groups in power are minting money ?

On the other hand, many African Countries are prospering, flourishing, with great manpower and brains and they will soon be taking over many portions in the global markets - slowly, surely and with that gorgeous africain grin and smile that makes them delighfully unique.
