In Bangkok, three rescue workers were injured during a shooting on November 6 after a dispute between rescue foundations on Lat Phrao Road. The Wang Thonglang Police Station reported to the scene near Soi Lat Phrao 122 at around 1am, discovering bloodstains and five spent bullet casings. The injured included 27-year-old Jirayu Kongdee and 36-year-old Akkaradet Tawisuwan from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, and 25-year-old Chittiwa Rueangkaew from the Siam Ruamjai Foundation, who were all promptly taken to the hospital.

The altercation arose as both rescue teams responded to a motorcycle accident and began providing first aid. Financial incentives linked to case handling are believed to have motivated the clash. Similar disputes have reportedly occurred in the past among rescue groups due to this payment system.

Later in the evening, two rescue volunteers, Thanakhom and Narongwit, surrendered to the police. Thanakhom is suspected to be the shooter and was allegedly in a prior argument with Narongwit, which escalated into violence. Statements from Pimchanok Palakawong Na Ayutthaya of the Ruamkatanyu Foundation indicate the incident began as an attempt to assist in transporting accident victims, a duty contested by the Siam Ruamjai group.

Following the refusal of help, tensions increased between the volunteers. After an altercation in which Narongwit reportedly punched Thanakhom, the shooting occurred. Both men now face charges including attempted murder and illegal firearm possession.

Looking forward, authorities are conducting a full investigation into the incident, focusing on the underlying tensions caused by the financial support system for rescue cases. Measures may be considered to prevent similar disputes among volunteer rescue groups.

Key Takeaways

  • Three rescue workers were shot during an altercation in Bangkok.
  • Financially incentivized case handling may have fueled the conflict.
  • Two volunteers have surrendered and are facing multiple charges.

"...injured during a shooting on November 6 after a dispute between rescue foundations...."

and you thought competition was tough between taxis and uber drivers....

Are there tiers to the rescue foundation schemes? Who rescues the rescuers? and if they need rescuing...

I could see a news report "The patient, who was being picked up for broken leg unfortunately died in a hail of gunfire between factions disputing who gets the honor (and pay) for hospital trip"

  • Popular Post

So they shot each other instead of helping the injured? Classic.
