It has to go to the House where it will pass. No filibuster in the House. Should be open by Thanksgiving Day.

Some news to "balance" the headline......

China is attracting US scientific talent partly due to funding cuts and immigration restrictions

Over the past decade, there has been a rush of scholars - many with some family connection to China - moving across the Pacific, drawn by Beijing’s full-throttle drive to become a scientific superpower.

President Donald Trump’s return to the White House has turbocharged this effort. The Trump Administration has cut billions in science funding, cancelled grants for some of America’s most elite universities, revoked international student visas and hiked up costs for highly skilled H-1B visas.

The slashing of science funding, combined with the increased scrutiny scientists of Chinese descent have faced in the US, has boosted Beijing’s efforts to attract top-tier talent and cement its position as a centre of global science.

That's lost on me too. A "win" for Trump.  It's a loss for the entire US government who are abject losers.

Yes but it needs to be returned. I'm guessing there have been some changes that hooked the votes from the Dems and Independents needed for the numbers to break the filibuster.

Presumably it is now a forgone conclusion that it will pass?

If not, does it goes back and forth?

Democrats Cave on Government Funding, Will Receive Nothing for Ending Schumer Shutdown

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2025/11/09/democrats-cave-government-funding-receive-nothing-ending-schumer-shutdown/

The left wing socialist Democrats who continually run up the U.S. deficit,  are losers again. Its all about free things with the Democrats. Tax the good citizens of the U.S. and give it to the mentally deranged, gender confused, drug addicts and those unwilling to work. Its a recipe for a dysfunctional nation but then again, dysfunction is the Democrat's mascot.

I agree with you.

something that can be used until something better or more permanent can be obtained:

How can this be described as a "Major win"?

All that has happened is the tin can ahs been kicked down the road a bit more.

Now if it was fixed so that it never happens again, THAT would be a major win.

If it is the victory which the Fragrant Leader, claims, then large numbers will lose their healthcare and no doubt other benefits. That will be terrible, and of course a number of thise who lose healthcare will quite simply die as a result - that is even worse. The effects will be felt in the new year, and should have a massive influence on the mid term elections in a years time.

And if the decisions on funding the Affordable Care Premium subsidies are also kicked down the road, well that brings the decision, and it's effects, closer to those elections.

However I suspect that the Democrat Senators proposal will be rejected and the shutdown will continue, because Trump is backed into a corner. If the House reconvenes, then Ms Grijalva will be sworn in and the motion to release the Epstein Files will be passed, and that, for Trump, is really the only thing that matters .  SNAP benefits, healthcare? No interest, but the worry over the files, that will really be putting him off his golf game!

The shutdown was not a Dem objective per se. :coffee1:

Now the GOP promised to deal with the ACA premium issue.

Then there are two possibilities:

1. The GOP fulfils its promise.

2. The GOP doesn't. In this case, US voters are now more knowledgeable about it and may draw some conclusions for their midterms votes.

Not really a loss for Dems in both cases. Either they succeed in their attempt to save the ACA premium subsidies, or they have a convincing argument for the midterms.

"Please tell the members of the court where on you body trump hurt you!"  Many, many people are waiting to hear that!

Thank you howlee101 for coming up with a great line! You are the best!!

T-shirts and caps are being ordered.

I won't be counting this over until it is actually done.  If the senate made ANY changes it must go back to the house (I believe) and I'm not convinced.

Bottom line is that it was the Trump Shutdown that lasted 40 days.

Mike you're so blinded by your hate.... how can you believe it was Trump that controlled the shut down, do you not know how the US government works?

All that was needed was a clean CR to be passed but the democrats refused until they made changes from the big beautiful bill that was already voted on and passed.

It's the end of the shutdown that is the win, that there was a shutdown does not negate the win of ending it.    Your bizarre opinion of a successful President is irrelevant to the ending of the shutdown.

  • Popular Post

These 8 senators didn’t act alone. They were given permission to vote. The shutdown was never about policy it was a staged No Kings Rally, a blue-state voter drive. Now that it’s over, they’ll go back to pretending they care about Americans.

It is set to end, it has not ended yet.  The article title is misleading

Yup.  Deals can fall thru.  especially if this one requires return to the house.

And even more irrelevant is your claim that the government shut down has ended, which it has not yet

I used the phrase "end of the shutdown" in reference to the content of the OP, so it was not irrelevant.   I did not claim that the shutdown has ended completely...

The shutdownb was because the Dems would not back down on the Obamacare issue. The Dems caused this shutdown. Trump just did not back down to their demands about it. All the REP have been voting for ending the shutdown.

That barely matters, the ruling party and the sitting president are always blamed for a shutdown, without exception.

So the longest shutdown in history was the Trump Shutdown.

So much for calling Trump a dictator when the minority party shut down the government.
