Late-Night Earthquake Rattles Koh Samui — No Damage Reported

Residents on the popular island of Koh Samui were startled awake in the early hours of the morning when a mild earthquake struck offshore. The quake registered a magnitude of 2.4 and originated from a depth of four kilometers near the island’s coast. While small, the tremor was strongly felt in several districts, including Bo Phut and Chaweng, where locals reported hearing loud booms and experiencing minor shaking in homes and buildings. Some residents described the sensation as furniture rattling and loud noises like thunder. The tremors occurred in waves, spaced minutes apart, adding to the confusion and fear. Thankfully, authorities confirmed that there was no damage to infrastructure, and no injuries were reported. Emergency services were placed on standby, and geologists continue to monitor the situation in case of aftershocks. Although Koh Samui is not commonly associated with seismic activity, experts reminded the public that smaller quakes can occasionally affect the region and urged calm, while advising on basic preparedness for similar future incidents.
