UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will unveil sweeping asylum reforms on Monday, November 17, 2025, extending the wait for permanent settlement from five to 20 years. Refugees granted asylum will receive temporary status, reviewed every two-and-a-half years, with return required if home countries become safe.

Nice headline. But nobody will be returned home if home countries become safe. Most of them aren't dangerous to start with. They will stay 20 years and then all the bleeding hearts will say "Oh he's got family now, he's got a job now, what about his human rights" like they did with the old Indian woman in the US. The chances of deporting someone like that are zero.

Labour had to pay the convicted sex offender 500 quid just to get on the plane after mistakenly releasing him from prison. 😄

Should put more priority on stopping the boats leaving France in the first place

A bit late once they arrive in the UK 🇬🇧

We tried that.

Paid the French hundreds of millions. They just take the money and then do nothing. They don't want these people either so they turn a blind eye to the whole thing. One less problem for them, one more for Britain.

Like I said to only way to stop it is to remove the incentive of hotels and benefits. Pick them up on the beaches, straight in the back of a truck to a detention camp on a bleak, cold moor surrounded by barbed wire and watchtowers. Nobody will pay thousands and risk their life crossing the channel for that. Calais will suddenly look much more attractive.

Totally agree. Basic rations - take it or leave it. No TV, mobile phones etc. Make it as unappealing as possible and perhaps the word might get around that the UK is not the land of milk and honey after all. Fat chance of that happening.

Just turn the boats back or better yet sink them! Bring the hovercrafts back - easy & fast to return to the French side

Sad, but possibly inevitable, to see Labour trying to copy Reform.

Actually, they're copying Denmark. One of the most liberal countries in Europe. It's in the article

What a silly phrase 'Leave to Remain" which is officially now called Permission to Stay...makes  more sense.

Like the somalians exported to Melbourne about 30 years ago.

Somalian gangs all over Melbourne, but now they are 2nd generation Australians.

Pretty soon some “refined Somali pirate” will end up being elected prime minister of Australia, and you folks will be the ones to make it happen.
I just can’t wrap my head around how Mahmood Akbar became prime minister — where did all the local Sherlock Holmes types disappear to?

Careful Phil.

Lucy Connolly got 36 months for a similar comment. I hope you're not white and/or married to a Tory councilor or 2 Tier Keir might make an example of you.

But the Labour Party are bigger liars and hypocrites than all the other political parties put together. Reform have to be given a chance if we want to stop illegals, and send any existing ones packing.
