Changing from marriage to retirement and days on entry

Featured Replies

Hi Team. I have been on a one year marriage extension for a number of years which I do myself. Well my wife does most of the work. I work fly in and fly out every 28 days. I arrive back in country on the 15th Dec and my current marriage extension expires on the 21st Dec. Do I still receive 90 days on arrival?

Due to me working 28/28 and the marriage extension having a 30 day under consideration time I have had to lose days at work. Firstly is it easy to transition from marriage to retirement extension and secondly what is the under consideration time for the retirement extension?

UK passport holder, over 50 and more than 800K in the bank. I have a yellow house book and Thai bank account.

Thanks in advance.

No, if your extension expires on 21st Dec, you will only be stamped in until that date. (6 days).

Yes, you just change the reason for the extension to 'retirement'.
Financial requirement is 800K deposited in a Thai bank, your sole name for 2 months prior to submitting the application.

Extensions based on retirement are approved and issued the same day at most IO's.
Don't forget to obtain the multi re-entry entry permit at the same time.

OP, you have correct advice above.

The main challenge will be you only have few days to obtain the extension.

It is doable if organized.

The main thing is the financials.

Obtain the bank letter, bank statement ASAP. Which Bank is your account.

Be aware that wife will need attend immigration and as pointed out obtain multi reentry permit.

On another point, if I decided to renew my marriage visa instead with the limited days. Would I receive 30 additional days stay in Thailand for the under consideration period?

When you apply for extension you will be given a return date.

That date is for final stamp.

At that point your  expiry date is, irrelevant.

You do not go into overstay.

Yes, you'd be given a 30 day under consideration stamp until 19th Jan, at which point you would return to collect the extension stamp.

I contacted my local Immigration Office. I'm going to go for the retirement visa. Seems the easiest option. Thanks for the previous information.

Good idea and being a roster worker best option is ongoing extensions based on retirement.
