Marriage Visas, Do Falang Women Get A Free Pass?

Featured Replies

Is it true that a falang woman who marries a Thai national isn't required to have the 400K in the banks as is required of a male? Are there any other concessions given other than this, like being able to work etc?

Can get Thai citizenship after 2 years of marriage with a joint household income of 20kbht/month, no employment required, no language requirements. Reduced to 1 year if there's a baby.

Wonder why the disparity? Are they trying to encourage western women to marry Thais?

Traditionally women were the property of men, and would live in whatever country their 'owner' originated.

Women weren't expected to work or have regular incomes, just keep house.

The west changed the rules shortly after WW2, Thailand and the rest of the world didn't.
