Police arrested three suspects and seized a total of 250,000 methamphetamine pills during coordinated operations aboard a northern train route. The Central Investigation Bureau’s Railway Crime Prevention Centre (CIB) led the operation under orders from Pol. Lt. Gen. Natthasak Chaonanasai, targeting the Chiang Mai–Krungthep Aphiwat route. Two linked cases were uncovered in a single day, resulting in the confiscation of 190,000 pills in one case and 60,000 in another.

The first arrest involved 28-year-old Yutthana at Lampang Station. Officers discovered a suspicious grey backpack on an overhead luggage rack and CCTV confirmed he had carried it onto the train. A search revealed 60,000 methamphetamine pills hidden inside and he subsequently confessed to possession with intent to sell.

The second case took place between Pang Ton Phueng Station and Sila At Station in Uttaradit Province. Police intercepted 28-year-old Nunticha and 26-year-old Suwat, who were travelling with three suitcases containing 190,000 methamphetamine pills. Both suspects denied knowledge of the drugs, claiming they had been hired to transport motorcycle parts without being aware of the narcotics concealed inside.

Thaitabloid reported that all three suspects were formally charged and transferred to local police stations for legal proceedings. Authorities have yet to confirm any broader links to organised trafficking networks, though investigations are ongoing. Officials noted the operation reflects intensified efforts to combat drug smuggling via railways in northern Thailand.

This the 3rd or 4th story in a week about seizures drugs, I wonder how many are passing through undetected. The drug problem is and has been greatly increasing since Covid. And especially since the start of the border disagreements and conflicts there.
