A 17-year-old Thai-Malaysian boy survived a jump from the seventh floor of a hotel on Rat Uthit Soi 8 in downtown Hat Yai on 2 December 2025. He landed on and going through a roof overhang between the third and fourth floors, approximately 10 metres above the street, sustaining an injured right ankle but remaining conscious. Rescue workers descended down the hotel façade from a balcony, using ropes to secure and lift him to safety before he was taken to Prince of Songkla University Hospital for treatment.

The teenager’s stepfather told police that the boy, whose mother is Thai, suffers from depression and takes regular medication. Before the incident, he ran from the family home across from the hotel while someone from the family chased after him. He reached the building and upper floors, before anyone could intervene. The family had been in the area visiting the boy’s ailing grandmother and the neighbourhood had recently experienced severe flooding.

Rescue officials noted the outcome could have been far worse if the boy had fallen directly to the street below. The operation was complicated due to the height and fragility of the roof overhang, highlighting the risks faced by emergency personnel. Hat Yai Police coordinated closely with rescue teams during the incident.

Naewna reported that further assessments at the hospital are expected to determine the full extent of his ankle injury, while authorities will carry out routine follow-up discussions with the family. The case highlights the importance of monitoring and supporting teenagers with mental health conditions such as depression.
