A 62-year-old Austrian tourist died on 2 December 2025, after collapsing in his hotel room in Phuket’s Karon area, prompting a police investigation and an autopsy to determine the cause. He was found unresponsive near the balcony door and was pronounced dead at the scene, despite efforts by hotel staff who were called to assist. Police said the incident occurred while he was staying at the hotel with his wife during a holiday trip.

The couple had checked in on 21 November and were due to check out on 6 December. His wife told police they had dinner together in Kata the previous evening and that he appeared healthy at the time. She said he stayed awake drinking beer and smoking after they returned, while she went to bed.

According to her account, she was awakened around 05:30 by his loud coughing. She told investigators that he became restless, walked briefly around the room and then collapsed near the balcony door. Hotel staff responded immediately, but he was already unresponsive when help arrived.

Police said the man had a long-term history of high blood pressure and had been taking medication for about ten years. His body was transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital, after police had documented the scene, for a full autopsy. Officers in Phuket confirmed that investigations are continuing in line with standard procedures in cases of sudden tourist deaths.

Authorities have not yet indicated whether any factors beyond his known medical condition may have contributed. No foul play has been reported and officials are working to establish a clear timeline of events based on the wife’s testimony and hotel staff statements.

Khoasod reported that investigators will review medical findings once the autopsy is complete. Any updates will be provided to the family and relevant authorities as required, with the police saying inquiries remain active, until autopsy results are received.

 Playing lottery, I mean.

RIP

Not wise to be smoking heavily with high blood pressure.
